DA3: ULC 300S Jackal, Ground Attack Aircraft
My entry for the GAA category in DA3.
About this creation

"She's a beauty all right, and she'll leave those fancy jets in the dust!
- Trent Dukasa, Jackal Pilot

The ULC 300S Jackal is the king of the crop in the national air force when it comes to speed. Its massive forward facing propeller and rear afterburners, along with its lightweight and compact design, allow the Jackal to zip across the crimson skies of our war torn world.

Like all ULC aircraft, the Jackal sports a bright yellow colour scheme. Some say it was nicked from the remains of the CCCP, but that's just what they want you to think.

Regardless, this view gives a better look at the aerodynamic shaping, designed to be as streamlined as possible and give the Jackal every advantage it can have in the air.

The rear afterburners provide a massive increase in thrust and power should the pilots require it. As often is the case, 'requiring it' tends to extend to prolonged celebrations and accompanied by sounds like 'Yaa hoo!'

The Jackal in it's landing position. Due to a pair of small hover engines underneath the main body of the aircraft, the Jackal does not require wheels to move about. Rather, it's wings fold down when it's stationary, and can be rotated up or down when moving.

During flight, this ability to pivot the angle of the wings allows the truely brave pilots to pull off feats of uncanny ability.

This angle also shows off the twin air intakes at the front of the vehicle.

Now the weapon systems. First off is the four Taz-46 Machine guns, positioned at the front of the aircraft. This quad weapons system can be controlled by either the gunner or the pilot, depending on the situation.

They aren't especially strong, more adapt for air to air combat than other assaults.

That's where the Moonstalkers come into play. Each Jackal is equipped with two as standard, but can be outfitted with additional Moonstalkers if the situation requires it.

Despite their relatively small size, each Moonstalker has enough power to split a tank in two. This is because of some sciencey nonsense that's best left up to the boffins. Regardless, Jackal pilots must use these sparingly and when they're needed. But as the bombs can be launched at basically any target, nowhere is really safe.

Finally, the last weapon. What's that? You can't see it? Well friends, let me introduce to you...

...the Nightfiend Secret Missile Storage!

The Nightfiend missiles differ from the Taz-46's as their main role is for air to ground attacks. That's not to say they can't be used in dogfights though, and many pilots often do. However, for strafing runs and bombing raids, the Nighfiends are a Jackal's best friend.

Bays doors open and raring to go. This Jackal's got the power to hit fast and hit hard.

The crew inside their aircraft. The pilot is at the front with the gunner positioned behind him, facing away from the action. This is so he can operate the Virtual Image Software that allows him to calculate the best possible targets for the Nightfiends and the Moonstalkers during an attack.

He also doubles as the navigator or co-pilot when needed.

Quoting Mark B. Nice work! The missile compartments are a great feature. I'm not sure whether it is what you intended, but the nose of this aircraft has a distinctive shape to it that looks to me like the head of a wolf or jackal. That's a really clever design if you meant it.
Wow! Thanks Mark! I actually didn't intend that, but now that I look at it I can see what you're saying. Thanks for the keen eyes mate!
