The sandship raced through the desert, kicking up clouds of dust behind it. The speed caused wind to rip through the thin wood cabin of the ship, blasting Michael's hair back. He and the others had been on this ship for about half a position, and in that time, he had gotten to know the captain and first mate. The first mate was the one with black hair and the robotic hand. His name was Max. The captain was the girl with the golden helmet, who was named Sofia. The rest of the crew didn't speak much, unless given and order. Gunshots could be heard in the distance over the roar of the ships engines, letting them know they were close to a battle.
Michael had learned that the tyrannical government, the United Galactic Empire was at war with these Northerners, because of a dispute of resources. The entire northern desert was on top of a goldmine, and the UGE wanted it for ship components. Little did any of the sandships passengers know that off in the distance, a UGE artillery crew waited for their apporach.
-BLAM!- The burning round of the self-propelled gun slammed into the side of the ship, jolting it sideways and almost sending several people overboard. The captain screamed at Max to keep the ship steady. Marcus grabbed onto the engine shroud and clung to it, away from the burning section of the ship.
The fire where the shell had hit soon erupted in flames, threatening to burn down the entire cabin. "Try to dodge any incoming shots!" Sofia yelled over the engines. Then she called to the rest of the crew, "Keep an eye out for artillery fire." Marcus kicked out part of the burning support beams of the ship in to the sand flying underneath them.
Thankfully, the lookout called down that the northern complex was in sight, and the crew gave up a cheer. Only twice more shells flew towards them, one landing short of the ship, while the other zoomed past and landed on the ground in a cloud of dust. However, the real battle would start once they got to the complex...
