This is version 2.0 of my Speed Champions 2018 Porsche 911 RSR racecar.
About this creation
What started as a change of tail light design lead to a complete rebuild. While the general layout of the car is similar to the first version, in fact it is 75% rebuilt inside and out. I decided to go for more realistic proportions by making both the front and the rear of the car 7 studs wide while the middle part is at 6 studs wide.
Adding one stud to the front of the car unleashed an avalanche of challenges and changes internally. I had to find a way to secure the transition at the front of the car that is much more compact than the same area at the rear.
I did this by have a 1x4 tile project from the front portion to the center one and then bricking it into place using tiles and jumper plates.
The new 7 stud wide nose meant my existing front splitter design would not work so I came up with another one. I kept the angled headlight bricks to mimic the laid back headlight style on all 991 version Porsche 911s.
In the rear, I replaced the tailight bricks with sausages that more accurately mimic the curved tail lights on the real car.
I had to rework the front fenders and the transition on the sides of the car from 7 studs to 6 studs wide.
I kept my basic design of replicating the red and black stripes with bricks instead of stickers.
A new instrument panel was added to the interior.
The car's plate built chassis was also reworked to make the whole car entirely more stable when being handled.
