Insurgency Build - Destrier Starfighter, 2.0
Blah blah bloo bleeeeee!
About this creation
So since I wonít really be building anything really big for my episodes, the only way for me to advance on the leaderboard is to build things not entirely related to my story (i.e. drones, battle suits, starfighters).

And so I present to you the first spacecraft that Iíve considered worthy to post here in while: The Theta-class Destrier Starfighter, 2.0. The original Destrier was a ship I built for a never-begun miniseries on the ever overarching General Galleries. I managed to dig up an older picture from when it was posted. It was built around the time that my skills were beginning to grow but man, those wings were waaaay too big.

Above: The original Destrier.

Like the original, the new new one used a cockpit design not be me, and although nowadays I donít usually use other peoplesí designs it was the best and most recognizable part, so I recycled the design here, albeit with some modification. But credit where credit is due you know?

Unlike most of the time when I update old builds, I didnít take things off and add things onto the original ship. Destrier 1.0 was actually ripped apart and back in my collection for some months before I actually built the new one.

Nevertheless, I did use some old styles from the original, though to a lesser extend. For example, I kept the greebling to a minimum, and I kept the SNOT stuff on the underside of the wings, as seen above.

I decided to give the wings a forward-swept design, instead of the straight line of the original, and of course, they had to be much narrower xP I really love those 45(?) degree angled plates, theyíre great for this sort of thing. The cheese slopes also fill the gaps really nicely, and the 1x2 slope on the back of the headlight brick gives the wing a really cool look when seen from above (in my opinion).

I really would have liked to put the autocannons on the wings, but no such luck. Thatís the one problem with the angle. Iím sure one of you geniusí would figure out a way to do it really easily, but not me ;P

Speaking of the weapons systems, letís move on to the stats.

Name: Destrier

Class: Theta

Type: Starfighter

Function: Air support

Arms: Dual heavy laser cannons, two Mk.3 ARK Missiles.

Manufacturer: Unknown

Description: The very first prototype for the Destrier was designed by SplaserTek, in an attempt to make a ship with both high speed, maneuverability, and shielding. In short, the ultimate air superiority fighter. It was a miserable failure, and the entire project was shut down. However, the blueprints were later stolen by Aurelii spies, and their designers on Zarus soon came out with the Destrier. Though nothing like was SplaserTek had originally hoped for, the ship was, for a time, a crippling factor in battle, until the design of the CX-22. Despite its comparatively low maneuverability and shielding systems, the high speed, acceleration, and firepower of the Destrier meant that it quickly became a fast favorite with the Aurelian air force.

Strengths and weaknesses: On its own, a single Destrier can hold its own, but it is easily outmatched by heavier ships like the Mark 9 or CX-22, despite their lower speed. However, when working in groups, Destriers become a force to be reckoned with. A squadron of Destriers is fully equipped to take down capital ships and can cut other straighter squadrons to ribbons.

This is a picture of the Destrier with my own Mark 9 and (stealth) CX-22 designs.

Anyways, thatís all for today! You better have read that entire things, I put a lot of work into itÖ Or like, half an hour :P

I have a TON of stuff that Iíve build over the past four months, and I finally got around to taking pictures of most of them a few days ago. So expect thoseÖ soon ish.

Ha, I did read the whole thing ;) Nice work here, Mr. Silver! To be sure, this is a very compact fighter with a lot of great features/aspects. Among my favorites are the unique swept-forward wing design and the area around the engine (always a fan of using that gray piece and I love the 1x2 sloped pieces that conform to the angle of the wings). The connection of the wings to the fuselage might be a tad weak for real life, but given the angles, I don't see a great way to remedy that and preserve the compactness of the fighter. Altogether, a fine piece of Lego sci-fi and quite possibly the inspiration nudge that I needed to work on something new along that genre... God bless! ~Promar~

Quoting Winslow "Whit" Wadsworth Whittier The Wiseô Tbh the OG Destrier Would have made a pretty fine Imperium fighter. I gotta say I like how the back of the ship and the forward blaster placement resembles the Mark 9. It might just be the same unknown manufacturer... You also did a very nice job of building the mk 9, though I might add that fin defeats the purpose of the part of the ship none of you have seen yet.xP And that's a spot on CX-22. :D
Yeah, but I don't play for the Imperial scum :P The engine design and blaster placements were meant to resemble the MK9.

Cool! I love the shape of it. The original reminds me of a Z-95(?) Headhunter. And, I read all of it.
