Truck 1 has now received a brand new Seagrave Marauder II tractor drawn aerial! The current Truck 1 will be passed on to Truck 5 and the current Truck 5 was traded in for this rig!
About this creation
Many details were added to this rig, including the large “1” on the grille! Also making a comeback for the department is the B&M Super Chief siren! CBFD was a long-time customer of B&M prior to the 80s when the whole electronic siren craze took over. But electronic sirens proved less effective in moving traffic as compared to the mechanical sirens. However, all CBFD rigs are equipped with both types of sirens as research has found that multiple sirens is more effective than just a single siren.
This tiller has many more details as opposed to previous versions. This includes the ladder shape, turntable details, additional scene lighting, and an improved ladder tunnel design.
All compartments and doors open on the rig. The driver’s side is equipped for structural fires.
Because of CBFD’s core belief of ground ladders, each truck company carries more than 250 ft of ground ladders, which is challenging for a straight-frame or mid-mount aerial to accomplish! Seen here is 1 of 2 three-section 35-ft ladders.
Ladder compartment opens to reveal the various ground ladders.
One of the major benefits of having a tiller is the maneuverability despite of the length of the apparatus.
The tillerman’s compartment stores his gear and additional tools. Also seen is the 8 ft straight frame ladder which is a super useful ladder to access the attic or basement in structure fires.
The officer’s side of the apparatus carries rescue equipment.
Additional details on the turntable include the Seagrave logo and hazard labels on the turntable.
Behind the cab is storage for the Holmatro hydraulic extraction tools. Above the compartment are compressed air hose reels and the Vanair 185-cfm air compressor.
Truck 1 is ready for action!
The NightScan Powerlite will light up any scene!
The aerial device can be raised up to 100 ft in the air!
The aerial device can also go below grade for cliff side rescue.
Castle Beach Fire Department has received Truck 1, the first of five rigs to be purchased courtesy of the LEMA grant! The latest version of Truck 1 features new innovations and techniques resulting in a much more stable rig! Although Truck 1 comes in at 61 ft in length, the apparatus can maneuver much easier than a rear-mount or mid-mount aerial thanks to the steering 5th wheel. As the busiest truck company in the city, Truck 1 sees action in parts of downtown, the port, and the various freeways that connect Castle Beach to the rest of the state.
