GZ 560 Close Combat Assault Vehicle (CCAV)
The ATUV's bigger badder brother.
About this creation
Close Combat Assault Vehicle (CCAV)

The CCAV armoured vehicles are the answer to the Eurusian Army’s request for a light but well protected infantry vehicle. The ATUVs perform well in many tasks, but in close quarter combat situations it has proven to be less effective. With an open cabin and troop compartment, the troops riding in the back are very exposed, especially when fighting in urban areas. A hardtop can be bolted on for extra protection, but that reduces troop carrying capability to a minimum. The ATUVs are also vulnerable to heavier mines and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) often used in booby traps.

Due to the increasing number of ATUVs being knocked out in close combat situations, the Eurusian Army requested a new type of light armoured fighting vehicles. Called the CCAV (“see-cav”, Close Combat Assault Vehicle) the GZ 560 is the ATUV’s bigger badder brother. It’s heavier than and not as fast as the ATUV, but it offers better protection for its passengers and crew, as well as increased carrying capacity and increased firepower. The CCAVs are similar to the MRAP vehicles used by other western armies.

The CCAV can carry a total of four fully equipped troops, in addition to the two man crew. The crew and passengers are sitting in a completely enclosed compartment. The CCAV’s armour is the same composite armour as in the ATUVs, which has proven to be light yet very resistant to enemy fire. The CCAVs are designed to protect its crew and passengers, and the blast waves from mines, IEDs and RPGs are absorbed by the vehicle itself, leaving the soldiers inside relatively unharmed. The crew and passenger compartment is also extra protected with thicker armour and a coat of Kevlar-like material. For self defence the CCAVs standard armament is a wire operated 30mm auto cannon, which is controlled from the passenger seat. The 30mm cannon is a good all-around weapon effective against infantry, lightly armoured vehicles and slow aircraft/helicopters. There is also an anti armour version of the CCAV, with two TOW launchers instead of the auto cannon.

Specification for GZ 560 CCAV:

  • Crew: Driver, gunner, 4 troops

  • Weight: 17.2 t (38 000lb) (gross)

  • Engine: liquid cooled V-8 diesel

  • Top speed: 95 km/h (59 mph)

  • Armament: Wire controlled Shipunov 30mm auto cannon or two TOW launchers.

  • GZ 560 CCAV. A snorkel is mounted on the engine's air intake for deep water crossing.

Extra armour plates provide added protection for the engine and front axle.

Extra armour is also added to the side, protecting the passenger compartment and the otherwise relatively vulnerable wheel wells.

The passengers enter/exit through the back hatch.

The CCAV's V-8 diesel engine. Powerful and reliable.

The crew. The gunner in the passenger seat operates the CCAV's wire controlled 30mm auto cannon. Note the gun holders behind the seats.

In addition to the crew, the CCAV carries up to four soldiers or cargo in the passenger compartment.

A team of soldiers exit the CCAV.

A patrol escorted by a CCAV is investigating an abandoned SPA HMGWV. Credit to Connor Pruett for the original HMGWV design.

The CCAV Anti-Tank version sports dual TOW launchers instead of the 30mm auto cannon.

Its a beast! Very detailed. The color scheme is cool and so is the gun. Looks very armored. It reminds me of the Grizzly armored vehicle they use in Iraq.

This is great. it reminds me of the Western Coalition vehicles from Frontlines: Fuel of War. Nice detailed shape, engine, neat windscreen, what is there not to like?

Ooooooooh. That's about all I can find to say. I've had to ban my mini-figs from the computer, as they might revolt when they saw all the cool trucks your guys get to ride in. Mine are still in a sloppy attempt at Justin Stebbin's old Warthog. They do have a Black Hawk though... Great work, I'll have to try one myself one of these days. -- -- Michael

This is iconic. I could go on saying that the colours are well-balanced, the weapons and details are nice, and so on, but iconic sums it up nicely. Prophet Zarquon

This is a top notch MOC; it would be an insane seller as a medium-sized boxed Lego set. The armor plating on the lower portions of the vehicle and the window grilles are nicely done. It also has plenty of functionalities such as the doors, troop hatch, engine, and cannon.

It is very nice. Can you show me how to make the armor plating on the sides and the door? You should make a mulit version with multiple munitions and a light and heavy tank.

It looks kind of like a Force Protection Cougar. I noticed that there is actually glass for the front windows. While it seems like a heavy and well protected vehicle, it doesn't look to have very good visibility or off road abililties.
