Angus is the descendant of an ancient noble family. The family owned vast tracts of land all throughout the realm. The McDirks were a valiant clan and respected by all who knew them. Unfortunately, Angus ended all of that. When he inherited the McDirk estate, it was strong and prosperous. Within a decade things were greatly altered. Most of the land had been lost, thanks to Angus’ gambling debts. The money was squandered through riotuous living and dissipation. When Angus could no longer afford living the life he was accustomed to in the cities, he fled to the last bastion of McDirk land. There he found his true calling. The only land left to him was a mountainous wilderness in the north. Originally the northern border of his estates, it is worthless for farming or raising livestock. However, it has one redeeming feature. One of the realm’s major trade routes runs through it. This is Angus’ lifeline. He now lives in an old tower, high in the mountains. It served as a watchtower over the northern border during his grandfather’s time. Now it serves as Angus McDirk’s headquarters for thieving, looting, and terrorism. He has gathered a band of likeminded rabble about him. They live of the loot they can pry from the merchant caravans that travel through this region. They are hated and despised by all the common folk, who hope and pray to be delivered from the depredations of the one they call “Angus the Bull.”
The tower of Angus the Bull (front view). The first floor is used as a great hall and dining room. The second floor is currently employed as the armory. The third floor is reached by a ladder on the left side and is the main lookout location. The top of the tower is reached from the third floor by an indoor ladder. Sometimes Angus stations a man up there to look for far off caravans, but usually they are too drunk to climb up there without falling off the ladder.
