My second version of the awesome tank from the 80s TV cartoon, Thundercats, the fully functioning, minifig scale, Thundertank Mk. II...
About this creation
This is the second version I have made in Lego, the first long since forgotten many, many years ago. While this is not a replica, I like to think of it as an evolved Thundertank, (something for the rumoured movie perhaps...)
It features twin rolling treads and a pair of claws which conceal lift-arms, each fitted with a wheel and cannon. The lift-arms can be moved up or down via attachable levers. This enables the tank to lift off the ground and raise it's claws. Another cannon is hidden in the nose, in front of the removable cockpit module located above the mouth intake (with working jaw). Plenty of interior room for an extendable gun turret or swivel chairs for the other Thundercats under the dorsal hatch. When the turret is extended, the hatch doors and main dish act as shields.
I aimed to keep the proportions of the tank correct, and in scale with the figs. Since it is not an exact replica of the cartoon 'tank, I may yet build another version, perhaps in UCS scale... one day.
I could not have built this without many of the newer elements. I also am unable to replace the pair of dark bley 6x1 curved slopes on the nose, simply because they don't make them in medium gray. Getting the cockpit area right took a while, and I tried numerous windshield arrangements until I was mostly satisfied with the current version. It's okay, but it'll have to do for now.
This project is not completely finished though. I am in the process of making the Thundercats in minifig form (which would explain the faceless figs in these photos) and have ordered a few parts in medium grey to replace a a few of the dark bley parts. I will eventually get around to replacing the photos with new parts or improvements, but for now, Thundercats! HOOOOOOOOO!!
Yeh Shannon, MASK would be cool, but what I'd love to see someone build (I say "someone" 'cause I'm nowhere near good enough to do it) is Silverhawks (sing along everybody... partly metal, partly real...). That would be sweet. As for this MOC... Money! I'd love to see your next installment be Mummra's (Did I spell that right, it has been like 20 years since I've seen that spelled) Pyramid complete with transforming evil mummy... that would be cool. Keep up the great builds. Later ~ Chris.
Mate that is one handsome build. All the hatches and internal work is teriffic. Thundercats rule! If you or anyone else's interested there's Lego GIJoe stuff here: http://www.bijoe.com/bijoe_vehicles.htm
I'm thinking of doing some M.A.S.K. stuff myself so your Thundertank is very inspirational!
I like it

NO WAY! I was thinking about building one of these and you beat me to it. I don't even think I could approach this level of quality. Great work. THUNDERCATS HO!
