Blacktron transport ship 'the wasp'
A transport ship for the original Blacktron.
About this creation
Blacktron. That single name is enough to create fear among the citizens of the futuristic Legoworld. Even the Space police can't help but shake for the might of this organisation.

The universe was first at peace. The only quarrels people had to worry about, were those darn moon rockets that kept beeing launched in some general direction. But then, suddenly, out of nowhere, they came. In their black ships, craved with yellow markings, they struck down on peacefull ships and spread their seeds of terror and confusion.

I have builded a transport ship for Blacktron, in the form of a wasp. And yes, I know, wasps have six legs and this craft has only four landing feet. But as you will see, the middle legs have been replaced by upward engines. So there are your fifth and sixth leg.

First of all, let's have a look at the ship. As you can see, it has a large backbody, a middle section with the legs and the wings, and a front section for the pilot. Another thing that you notice, is that he has only one pair of wings, insted of the dubble pair a wasp has. I'll be back on this topic. What I here want to point out, is the use of the upward engines to lift off the ground. You see that the wings can be bent back to the middle body, so the engines provide an upward thrust. This is exactly the reason why there are no middle legs: there is siple no place for them (or else they will be burned away).

Now, let's have a look at the front section. This is the place the pilot seats. You see that the cockpit has two small guns. They are for close combat.
What you also can see, is the way the cockpit opens. Unlike most ships, the entire upper section of the cockpit, including the controls, goes up.

Another feature of the cockpit is that it can bend down. This is very usefull for the pilot when he want to get out very fast, but that is not the main reason that this is possible. I'll be back on this subject.

When we take a frontal view of the ship, we see the attributes on the wings: the main engines and the two main guns. Unlike those close-combat guns at the cockpit, these guns are capable of destroying quite some distant targets. You can wonder why a transport ship needs to be this heavily armed. Well, because their Blacktron, of course! Transports have to be able to protect themselves while doing their dangerous away missions.

Anyway, I use this opportunity to adress a problem I encountered with those legs. Not only was there no place for the middle legs, as you can clearly see on the next photo, but the weight of the craft was to much for those legs to handle. So I had to support them. You can see here the construction I made. Also you see at the right a handle that is in place for the back section, which I will cover next.

The back of the wasp is large and heavy. Therefor I had to anchor it above and below. You saw the below construction in the previous photo.
I was quite surprised that the wasp, when it stands on the ground, doesn't flip backwards. Apparantly I made a good construction, with a well-balanced weightspread. Of course the transport section is able to go down, like the cockpit. This way, the troops can move out easily in the case of a ground attack.

Since the troopsection is quite closed, I came up with the idea to make the sidepanels be able to flip open, so you could access the men inside. Go playability!
As you can see, there is place for nine men. These blacktron folks are armed with heavy blasters and won't hesitate to walk over you.

now that we had a look at all the different parts, let's compare the ship with some other major spacecraft: the cosmic fleet voyager (set 6985) and the galactic mediator (set 6984). The first one is from 1986, the second from 1992. As you can see, the ship is equal qua length. Maybe indeed a little bit shorter, but that doesn't make a lot of difference. What does add to it's greatness, is it's wingspan. With that, it totally overshadows the other two (beside the fact that the tabel wasn't big enough).

Now the moment you all have been waiting for: the reason why the cockpit and the troopsection can bend down. The reason is the famous wasps sting. The ship is able to put its back to the enemy vessal and still face it with its cockpit, and thus having guns pointed at it. Since there is no gravity in space, the orientation won't matter much. Just adjust to the local artificial gravity of the ship.

O no! The cosmic fleet voyager has been entered by the wasp and the Blacktron troops are shooting their way in. The clearly want no survivors.

I hope you like this troop transport. I had builded it from the pieces that were left over after building my VOC ship-of-the-line 'Osdorp'.

5/5 :D Very thought out. I love all crossovers between fantasy and sci fi, expecially organic looking spaceships. It has great framework and surprising stability. Maybe some more details could be sued on wasps belly , but i think they wold make it so heavyit could break. Also, idea with sting is great :D good job :D

Wow, this is very detailed. I really like how the cockpit opens and the support structure for the legs, in particular. Excellent work.

YEAH ! This ship really rocks ! The shape goes very well with the blacktron theme (which I love) and it's full of beautiful details and features. Very cool ! My only complaint : I'm jealous of your 6985 lol Anyway, I'm happy to see a new "Classic-space amateur" on MOC^page :)
