PCS Star Rangers bunker module for the Moonbase.
About this creation
November 2004

This is a Pre-Classic Space Star Rangers bunker module that adheres to the Moonbase Standard. When battles rage near civilian modules, this established unit of Star Ranger troops will deploy and take action against enemy forces.

This smallish module connected with the rest of the NWBC Moonbase and had a front row seat to a raging battle. Not one, not two, but 4 distinct Space factions engaged in ground assault within the confines of the moonbase layout.

From start to finish, this module changed very little. Just a lot of minor adjustments here and there. I knew from the start that I wanted the bunker to appear built into the terrain, with nooks and crannies for troops to crawl over or missiles to pop out of. I approached that idea as if the whole scene were a GI Joe playset. Hatches open, missile racks deploy, generators blow up, doors open, all sorts of play factors that a kid would love.

The top comes off the main body of the bunker for access to the interior, where commanders can transmit orders and observe battle movements from safety. Racks of guns and spare helmets line the room.

The curved roof (a combination of Xpod and 8x8 dish) is a clean slate for some sort of weapon or greebling, but after several attempts I left it bare. I am totally up for trying out any ideas you guys might have for that spot.

You can see the Ranger leader surveying the landscape through the forward viewport. Or maybe he's checking out da ladies.

An overall shot of the module. You can see the corridor connector and the comm dish.

That open blank baseplate looks pretty lame now, but when you've got troops spewing from portals and hatches, it looks way sweet.

The retro-style power generator. This little tidbit was based off a suggestion by Chris Giddens and Mark Sandlin for hoverthingies below my PCS hovertank.

Some inset greebling. This is probably the first moc where I went out of my way to make the greebling look realistic and important, as if that little light and hose really had a purpose.

   The top comes off.

The concept here was that troops could enter the battlefield by climing out of an underground tunnel through this hatch. That's a hard thing to visualize with a flat baseplate, but I think I finally got it.

   Oh, and there's missiles.

The main entryway for the bunker.

The Star Rangers are not fond of door-to-door salesmen, religious nuts, and Jade Empire lackeys.

..If only you knew the irony behind that statement.

From the corridor, troops climb down a ladder into the main room of the bunker.

   The commander at his workstation.

All dressed up with nowhere to go.

This is just a shadow of what went on at NWBC04. You shoulda been there.

neat idea. it probably was hard to invision the tunnel. i wouldn't mine "accidentaly" going into your house, and "accepting" this from you.

I like the model, especially the missiles, and the hidden trooper, the dude with the binoculars, the gun rack the helmets, the door, plus its blue, theres plenty of equipment inside .What I didn't like was that it's too low on the ground, and the only way to get to standard moonbase corridor height is for the minifigs to climb, too slow for trooperes. The main question in my mind however, is, WHY THE HECK DO THEY HAVE THE GENERATOR OUTSIDE?! otherwise its a nice model....
