I have 115 people for this one, of which 111 will be presented here. 4 will be left as guest appearances.
#01 First up is the Uruk Hai Army. 7 Horsemen, 2 flag holders, 30 footsoldiers, 1 axeman, 10 beserkers, 8 crossbow guys, and 18 skellies. This is shown in the cover photo. All photo comments will appear below the photo so look up rather than down when reading descriptions.
#02 These are the skellies and beserkers
#03 These are the footsoliders and the crossbow guys
#04 These are the horsemen.
#05 The lead horsemen, with the exception of the cool new shield I made about 15 years ago. This was my first custom mini-fig and I'm really happy that its still valid because I felt bad about coloring legos back then. I used my sisters red fingernail polish for the helmet and arms, and I used a black sharpie for the armor and to cover up the horses face.
#06 This is the skellie warrior. Has black armor helmet and grey hands. This isn't consistent with the story, but I didn't want to order more heads, and thought it looked cool anyways.
#07 Now is Mr. Axeman the coolest guy ever or what. (with exception to the guy above)
#08 The Bezerker is really cool too IMHO. Used the viking helmet with pearl colored horns. how cool is that.
#09 The crossbow guy is sporting a great looking chest armor. Many props to him.
#10 The footsoldiers get the coolest of hemets. These helmets are courtesy of "ThorzBrikTopia" - only the fastest and best Bricklink guy out there.
#11 The skull and bones flag carrier. These guys get extra armor because they dont have any weapons other than the spear on the flag to protect themselves.
#12 Which flag is better? Leave a comment and let me know what you think. Personally I like this one, but they're both pretty cool I think.
#13 The Goblin horsemen is superbo eh? Sporting the wolfpack shield. Its cool how all of these different factions have the same colors. have I worn out "cool" yet?
#14 I dont think so because these elves are awesomely cool.
#15 The Elf leader, whatever his name was. All I remember from the movie was a bad wig.
#16 Cool elf courtesy of the new lego fig and brickforge.
#17 The Rohan Army (recognizable as the fantasy series army)
#18 Gandolf!! and the riders of Rohan
#19 The Riders of Rohan
#20 Detail of Rider. he is from the Samuri/Orient Set. Not the best depiction, but a good minifig anyways. There really wasn't a good match and these guys seemed the best riders although their flag is of a snake rather than a horse. I'm not really die-hard to the movie as you'll find out in the castle posting.
#21 The Riders of Rohan Leader, Whatever his name was.
#22 Last but not least is our heros. Legolas, Aragorn, and Gimli. The hair on Legolas and Aragorn is still in the mail so these are make-shift. All of the capes shown are custom. $3 at the fabric store bought me 200 lego capes in black and green. Unfortunately I only needed 2 green ones and 15 black ones.
Pretty good, though I find that the elf leader should have the same torso as the rest of them, or a different viking torso, it looks like he's carrying around an axe. Also, what fabric store did you find the capes fabric at, and whats the brand name? Thanks.
Very good, very very close to the movie, i just watched it and loved the battle, but the uriky, or watever they'ere called ar alot more buff, try using a great custom armour thing i found dude. here is the link for ppl who want good armour-- http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=228596
!!!WARNING: this is not my custom armour, someone else did it!!!
I'd go with the scorp flag. But that's just a personal thing (My b-day's in November). Between these pics and the one you sent me... yep, best "Deep" EVER! (wait till you guys see what he has cooked up). I'm gonna agree with Kelso (man I really don't like doing that...) on that whole "artistic license" thing. It doesn't matter how accurate it is as long as it's YOUR expression! Can't wait to see the finished post! ~ Chris.
Lookin' forward to the battle. Good lookin' crew there. What is this thing people have about displaying groups of military figures? Good detail on the figures. I don't worry about things matching perfectly. As long as the representaion is close enough that's ok for me. If you have a good bit of detail and texture that can go along way. I'll be sure to keep an eye out. What? Don't you like the purple? I think it's fun...with a capital F. garth
Very cool, looks like you put a lot of thought into each unit; and it turned out well! I'd go with the skull flag just because I tend to try to associate the scorpion with a certain army whereas the skull has a more generic look to it and it can fit in anywhere.
Well, as a die-hard Tolkien fan, I have to admit there are a lot of flaws in the details...but I won't bore you with 'em. And hey, like I mentioned in an email conversation, artistic license! It does my heart good to see all those figs lined up in preparation for violence and carnage - it just gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling all over. I can't wait to see the final post...this is gonna be...what was the word?...oh yeah...COOL!
