Welcome everyone, to the 2008 Mocie Awards. The night when the greatest builders on mocpages gather to find out who granted the most “favors”… Sorry, I read that wrong… I mean, who your favorites are.
I’m your host, Joe Fullerschmidt. Everyone is on the edge of their seats here at Darkspawn Gardens, so named since Phipson’s wife wasn’t too keen on naming their next child after him like he promised… Darkspawn Phipson, does have a certain ring to it though doesn’t it? And the question on everyone’s mind, who will receive the coveted “Builder of the Year” award?
We have some special guest presenters on hand tonight as well, so since most awards shows are long and tedious, we’re gonna get right to the action!
The nominees for best comic short…
The “Death Warmed Over” series By Mark Kelso, “Cloud City Jacuzzi” by Keith Goldman, “Mi Awsum HALO page” By Chris Phipson, The “Sir Zomberth” series by Lord Gianguglielmo Pappadhum, and “Galactic Pimptastic” By Shannon Young
And the Mocie goes to… The “Sir Zomberth” series by Lord Gianguglielmo Pappadhum! Lord Pappadhum was unable to be here tonight so I’ll be accepting this award on his behalf… and pawning it later tonight. I’m still saving up for that knee implant surgery that’s all the rage with today’s minifigs.
Here to present the award for Best Mech, is LEGO Ambassador and Mocpages legend, Keith Goldman.
Thanks everyone. With those EXO-Force “things” out there that the LEGO company is passing off for mechs, it’s refreshing that these builders took it upon themselves to deliver the best hold for applause. Wait, was I supposed to read that last bit?
Anyway, For best mech, the nominees are “BM1-Raptor” by Lee Jones, “Assault Walker Texas Ranger” by Mark Kelso, “Schism” by Brian Kescenovitz , and “The DSA IronDay Assault Mech” by LegoLord365
And the winner is Brian Kescenovitz for Schism! We received a letter from Bob from accounting stating that it was not cost efficient for Brian to be here tonight but Brian did send these kind words… “Packers rule!” Thanks Brian, and good luck with that whole Brett Farve thing.
Thanks Keith… Nice pirate outfit by the way. Moving on. LEGO would be nothing without classic space and this next category.
The nominees for best in castle, kinda like best in show but the dogs get more recognition, are “The Gathering” by Lee Jones, “Eggplant Island” by Eggplant Altrage and DARKSPAWN for Château sur la Rivière.
The winner for best castle is Eggplant Island by Bry… uh, Eggplant Wiz… uh, Eggplant Anonymous, oh sorry, Eggplant Altarage! Man, talk about multiple personality disorders. Whatever his name is, we received word that his plane was delayed but that he’ll be here later tonight for the after party. Eggplant called us from the plane with this acceptance speech…
(Written by Eggplant Anonymous)
“Beers on the House.”
The nominees for Microscale. “The Landing of the Riptide Dawn” By Legolord365, “Shannonia” By Shannon Young, “Coruscant” by Gabriel Whittemore , “The Invisible Hand” by Mark Kelso and “Luseville” by JD Luse.
The winner is “Mark Kelso for the “Invisible Hand”.
Mark: Well it’s about F*%#ing time! I’ve been sitting here for over ten minutes and haven’t won anything yet! Why don’t you just give me the award for best story while I’m up here and save some time in this fiasco you call a ceremony?
Thank you Mark for those heartfelt words. Here to present the next award is one of mocpages best known method actors, Emperor Ludgonious.
This category was specifically created so Phipson would have a snowballs chance in hell at winning something. Why he didn’t add his “Lamentation of Vader” moc to this list, we’ll never know. The nominees are, “Future Warning” by Shannon Ocean and Chris Phipson, “Inner Sanctum of the heart of the Fallen God” by Shannon Young, “Apocalypsis” by Mark Kelso and “Labyrinth” by Shannon Young.
And the Mocie goes to… Shannon Ocean and Chris Phipson for “Future Warning”. Guess that snowball thing paid off… no, not that one, get your mind outta there people! Shannon stated in an earlier interview that he would not be accepting this award because Phipson was the one who wrote it and Chris said that it was Shannon’s build that brought the whole thing to life… those two should just get a room and get it over with.
Thank you your Highness, and speaking of the LIU,
We’ll be back after a word from our sponsors… That’s what we call a “segway”.
Are you hungry?
Then stop by McLudggy’s and try one of our new and improved Kaduu burgers. Now 34% non toxic. McLudggy’s, its food.
Da da, dadada. I’m Ludgin it.
And we’re back.
The next award goes to the builder who made us think about it, whatever “It” may have been at the time.
The nominees are “Anomaly” by Shannon Ocean, “Pyramid Scheme” by Shannon Young and “Government Sculpture” by Shannon Ocean.
The winner is, Shannon Ocean for “Government Sculpture”. Shannon…
(written by Shannon Ocean)
"Oh, no, please no. I have a funny story if you'll listen. I even wrote theme music, here: listen. Ha ha, mm-m hey hey, Professor Frink, Professor Frink, He'll make you laugh, he'll make you think, He likes to run, and then the thing, with the... mm-m person... Oh boy, that monkey is going to pay!" (Professor Frinke)
Some builders start an idea and never let go. Once in a while those ideas stand out and deserve to be recognized. The nominees for best “On going theme” are… “The LIU” by Emperor Ludgonious, “Dawn Forge” by Brian Kescenovitz, and “Space Ninja’s” by Shannon Young… And the winner is The LIU by Emperor Ludgonious!
(Written by Emperor Ludgonious)
"The Ludgonian Industrial Union is both surprised and grateful that you have chosen us as the "best ongoing theme". We'd like to thank all the customers out there that check out our products on a regular basis. Without your time, ideas, and money, the LIU could not be what it is today. Speaking of money, what's the prize for this uh.. award? What? What do you mean this is just for honor? Are there any banks around here that exchange honor for cash? No? What do you mean my time is up? I flew all the way here, do you know how much gas costs these days!?! "
In an effort to save us from the constant onslaught of Sharpie modified Mstr Ch33fz a few builders decided to start community projects that can be shared by all.
Those nominees in the best Mocpages innovation are… The “Moc-Off” by Chris Phipson and Shannon Ocean, “MOCtag” By Shannon Young and “Cyborg Racers” by Shannon Ocean.
And the Mocie goes to Shannon Young for MOCtag!
(Written by Shannon Young)
Normally an acceptance speech is full of thank yous. Well, for this one I think it would be more appropriate if you all thanked me, for being such an unbridled genius and coming up with a brilliant feature like MOCtag. You're welcome. LONG LIVE RORY!
Thanks Shannon. I see you and SigPhipson Figgy shop at the same store…
And speaking of MOCtag, the next award is for the best MOCtag installment. At the time the ballots were sent out there had been 9 installments of the series ending with Legolord. And the winner of Best MOCtag installment is Lee Jones!
I’m a very busy man so I’ll just say… I can’t believe you guys tore me away from Pornomocs.com for this! I don’t even get a little Rory or anything? And you call that a crafts table in the back? I need to start hanging out with a better class of LEGO geeks…
Ahem, Mocs are nothing if not a medium for artistic representation of our view of the world. That being said, the nominees for best landscape are… “Reagan Peninsula” By Keith Goldman, “Apocolypsis” By Mark Kelso and “The Glowing Gardens of Cyndir Fis” By Shannon Young.
The winner for best landscape is, Mark Kelso with “Apocolypsis”
(Written by Mark Kelso)
"Thank you, I accept."
Finally, it’s come down to the final two categories. Moc of the year and Builder of the year. There were no nominees in these two categories and voters were asked to submit who they thought were the best of the best. The nominees have been counted and the debates can finally be put to rest.
It was a tight race till the very end with only one vote separating first and second place. The Award for moc of the year goes to… The Invisible Hand by Mark Kelso
Mark: And let me just take a minute to explain why I’m the best (interlude music begins). I pour my heart and soul into this site, and you people don’t deserve me!
Joe: Thank you Mark.
Mark: “I put aside petty things like family, work, birthdays and bathroom breaks just to bring you the best.”
Joe: “That’s disturbing Mark, but we really need to clear the stage.”
I’ve been underappreciated for so long and to FINALLY have you people recognize just how amazing I really am… it’s about time!
Just give me my damn builder of the year award and let’s call it a night. Why drag this charade out any further? I’m a god I say, A GOD!!!!
Before we get to our final category, for your pleasure, please welcome the Mocpages Interpretive Dancers.
…. Does anyone actually clear this stuff before we go on the air?
And now, the one you’ve all been waiting for. The builder of the year Award.
Once again, a very close race with many great builders nominated. By your vote’s mocpages, the builder of the year is… drum roll please… Mark Kelso! With the number of awards he’s winning tonight, it’s no wonder why he was so familiar with the concept of the golf ball and the garden hose.
I’ve just been informed that Mark has just been pepper sprayed and clubbed over the head while scuffling with security backstage and won’t be able to accept this award at this time. Get well soon Mark, we’re all pulling for ya.
Thanks for joining us tonight for the 2008 Mocie awards. We hope you enjoyed the show and as always, be sure to have your Ewoks and Wookies spayed or neutered. I’m Joe Fullerschmidt, good night.
Fourth wall commentary – Allow me to address some of the questions that some of you are asking yourself right now. Why wasn’t MOC or Builder “X” nominated? I had to try to keep it manageable. First, I narrowed it down to builds within the last 12 months or so (I know, I would have voted for Jassim too). Even within those perimeters, there are literally hundreds of mocs that could have been nominated in each category.
And speaking of categories… Why wasn’t there a category for (insert anything you could possibly think of here)? Once again, you see how long this thing was with just these categories. I’ll just leave it at that.
On voting. I sent out about 30 ballots to builders whose e-mail addresses I had (suckers). After the votes were counted and verified through an independent source, the results were translated into LEGO form and presented here for your voyeuristic pleasure.
Those of you that did vote, thank you SO much for your input. I couldn’t have done this without you guys (and girl). Not to mention those of you that took the time to write acceptance speeches (those were REALLY written by those guys when stated above btw). Thanks again.
I do need to take this time (since you bothered reading this far) to thank Mark Kelso (Like that guy hasn't gotten enough recognition as it is) for designing the cover pic of this moc. Thanks Mark!
This moc was long enough as it is so I’ll just end the madness here.
Keep it Blocky Everyone and hope to see you next year for the 2009 show!
In case anyone is wondering... yes, the 2009 Mocies will be handled COMPLETELY differently. EVERYONE on mocpages will have the same chance to win. No more nominees from me. It's gonna be a free for all!... sorta. You'll see. I'll be starting preporations for it sometime within the next few months so start thinking of who you're gonna vote for! ~ Chris.
Um Laza, you DID destroy those pictures right? And for "LGP" (cause I'm not typing that whole name out again), the proof is in the pudding my friend. They voted for ya (and so did I)! You deserved it. Congrats.
It amazes me that some of you don't get it. This was done out of fun! Even a genius like Phipson can't include everyone or every category . . . or can he? I'm new here and I voted strictly on quality of work and idea. Perhaps you winers should put the time and effort into creating MOC award show. We'd love to critique it! As for Phipson, this was very well done and quite entertaining . . . almost as funny as seeing you in your tighties and ices skates and nothing else (I miss Europe and your idea of a backflip!)!
Block on Dude!
I am ABSOLUTELY FLATTERED!
I most probably did not deserve the prize, as my building kung-fu is barely white-belt, but I am so overjoyed I feel like I may cry... *sigh* *sigh*
THANKS EVERYONE! :-)
[PS - sorry for not having voted, not having provided an input, and not having written an acceptance speech - several things happened: I changed job, had a lot to do, locusts invaded my home, etc. - also, I guess I actually, really, absolutely, thought this was larger than me ^__^]
I flew all the way to this dump just to not win an award! Aw man! I am so P.O. right now! You know I'm a god too! I'm so unappreciated, I think I'm gonna be sick! I'm gonna ignore you from now on Phipson, so don't expect to hear from me ever ever ever again! Hmph! Now if you'll excuse me, I have an Ewok to take to the vet for a...special reason. *stomps away* In fact I won't ever say "C ya" today!
Master Chief. OK, so I stand corrected. You do have a sense of humor. You still haven't left me an e-mail address or told me who you really are so the possibility of being added to next years awards are right in between slim and none. Nothing personal on that, just since you're hiding behind a fake name, I can't help ya out. Now then, I'm not the kind of guy that holds a grudge for past wrongs so if you've got the stones to step up and tell us all who you really are, maybe we can move on. Oh, and sarcasm by the way, is my bread and butter. The ball's in your court "Chief". Step up, be a man and tell us who you are. If not, I think we can all figure out what kind of person you really are. Prove me wrong. That's not sarcasm, please step up and prove you're not a coward. Thank you.
Oh ya - to all the hacks: actions speak louder than words, build something worthy to be compared to these fine builders (who are all better than I). So Chris, did you want that $100 in cash, or is a cheque ok? Lee.
Awww, you make me blush - and not just because of the pepper spray either (how was I supposed to know your sister was only 18 - she looked 21!). Forgive my recent gray-age as I have been working my gluteus maximus off building my new practice as well as playing contractor for the renovations of our new house, but just wait until I have my Hepa-filtered Lego room done! Brilliant job man, brilliant job. This deserves it's own award. Lee.
Okay, now I am done reading it (with several REAL LOLs through out). First, LOVE the dancers (made me LOL), love the commercial (made me LOL), love your interpretation of Kelso and the LIU (made me LOL). Pretty much, it ALL made me LOL! (seriously). For At (down a few reviews): No, the bigger people did NOT only vote! I get around, but I am not considered one of the bigger MOCers! (I have only been on since October!) BUT, I did vote here. I think it is TOTALLY fare! He got who he COULD to vote, and for those he could not contact, they did not vote! So, I think it is totally fare!
To everyone asking for more representation of unknown builders with lower-quality MOCs, what Bizarro world are you from? Awards are not and should not be given out for mediocrity. I don't agree with all of Chris's decisions here, not by a long shot, but it was his idea and he made it, so he can do what he wants. Rather than just complain, do something about it. Make your own awards show with your own categories, nominate who you want, and run it how you want. Just don't call it the MOCies, that's taken.
Pff! What’s so great about building an invisible hand? I mean, how do you know if it even looks like a hand if it’s invisible? Here, look…I built an invisible Angelina Jolie. It looks just like her. Can’t tell? THAT’S BECAUSE IT’S INVISIBLE! *shakes head in disbelief* Well done all around, Chris.
GREAT ! FANTASTIC ! AWESOME ! AMAZING ! Well, I always put one of these words in my comments of cool MOCs but here you deserve the four words together ! Keep it blocky man, you're so good ! (and congrats to everybody in the show too !)
Well, gotta say that Kelso deserved the Moc'o year!
Down under thunder got at least two prices.
now,im going to build something so me,myself and I can get nominated!(yeah right ;P)
Ill be off to giveOcean a price then...
One stinkin MOCie? ONE? I came all the way out here for ONE lousy award? What a bunch of -- wait, I didn't come here at all. I don't know who that sig-fig is impersonating me. I mean, an orange flattop? Come on! What I want to know is, who is that freak, and how did he get a copy of my speech?!
I like it

Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule *cough! LEGO Starwars *cough! This was awesome! And I know you've heard this before, but the interpretive dancers made me laugh out loud. My family was confused at my outburst. Next year, there has to be a minifig streaker or "Soy Bomb". I love a little anarchy at my awards shows. And I'd love to work the red carpet for ya.
What a fiasco!!! Who the *&$%! would vote for that blithering imbecile, Kelso? Phipson, what are you trying to pull? This is ridiculous!!! I'm calling my congressman!!! Thank God at least somebody had the decency to pepper spray that *$&%#! rude, obnoxious, self-absorbed (I can't believe this isn't getting moderated), no-good, loudmouth, Dan Jassim wanna-be!!!!!!!! Call this an awards? Why I've never been so insulted in all...
Well, I guess all those sponsorships, bribes, family "visits", and park ducks paid off. It was worth it. At least for me, I can't speak for my female family members. This whole Mocie Award thing was a great idea (will it be possible for the the 08 Mocie Awards to win a 09 Mocies Award?). Thanks for the laughs and thanks for putting on the show.
wow, congrats to the nominees! Since it is my first year on Mocpages i'd say that these people deserved their awards! Not many people check out my stuff, plus i haven't been here for a whole year so, I definitely couldn'tve been a nominee for anything!
Thank you Matt, I didn't want to have to say it (about those guys being the best). You also gotta remember, I didn't just "SAY" these were the winners, they were voted on by the community. There really was a voting process. As for the whole "Only my friends won" thing. Hey, Mocpages users voted for them. My vote only counted once just like everyone else. Those votes were verified through an independent source (That I won't disclose, If they want to out themselves they're welcomed to). Hope that helps clear up any questions. These awards were NOT fixed. ~ Chris.
Rory is D E A D Young,D E A D!!!!!!!!!!Ahem, now that I cleared that up,nice one Chris,I really like the title pic. Thanks for nominating me at least,I mean,I'm 18 years younger than you and Young and Goldman and Ocean and Kelso etc.I think I did pretty well ;-) Ba da ba ba ba,I'm Lugin' it~LL
Alex, I think the reason only high class builders were selected would be because they happen to be the best, (just my guess) as for they're all being friends of Pipson's.....he'll have to answer that.
Great job by the way Pip! (Hehe, Pip....)
What gives? Mi Awsum Halo site was a shoe-in. Did my votes not get counted? I was told that I got a vote for every screen name that I use, but I guess the gigs up. Lets see here. The dancers were a great interlude between Mark receiving awards. BTW, congrats to Mark. Way to take all of the glory you glory-hog. And to Chris, thanks for taking time to put together this show! Well done.
Oh god, laughing too hard at the Interpretive Dancers to write sensibly. Yay for MoCies!! Oh it had it all: Mark getting pepper-sprayed, Goldman the pirate, Youngy's tirade and INTERPRETIVE DANCERS! BTW those category award pic builds you did are awsum! Bravo man, bravo.
