"Concentrate all fire on that Super Star Destroyer!"
The Super Star Destroyer is one of the largest, most powerful Imperial vessels ever created. It follows the same basic dagger-shaped design of the Imperial-class Star Destroyers, but magnified to much larger scale. A smooth hull presents an arrowhead shaped profile when viewed from above. Resting in the center of this hull is an "island" of habitable volume.
I'm talking classic SW here, not any extended universe junk. Purely episodes 1-6...leaning more heavily on episodes 4-6. =)
I know I posted this with a landing pad and a microcity a while ago, but according to comments, I changed some stuff and ditched the diorama idea.
So I milked it for while, listened to my new Hawk Nelson CD thirty times in a row, and built a small display stand.
But before you could say "I love Monty Python" it was whisked away into the Evergreen State Fair...only to be judged by a middle aged woman who thought Luseville was a space station.
Here it is in the fair behind a glass case. (Horrible picture)
Please tell me...HOW COULD THIS "THING" GET FIRST PLACE!?!
I blacked out the contestant's name for his protection. From me.
And that isn't the worst thing I saw that got first place there. You know amazingly bland Lego sets can be...
Oh well, for next year they made a rule that you can't enter any Lego sets. I can't wait. Do you know why? I don't know about your area, but where I live, the county fair is an example of skill and a hard earned ribbons. People - like me and many others - work all year on our projects, only to be "beat" by someone who tossed it in there just to "get something".
Here is a picture with my hard earned ribbon. THAT is what the county fair is all about.
I like how simply and yet so complicaed it is.
And i can tell you why that horrible thing got first place asy.
It's the 5 year son of th judge =) thats how.
However that ribbon looks cool though.
and to qoute Buzz Aldrin in a simpsons episode: Secod come right after first, hehe
to the "look what got fisrt place": under 3 years of age category ???
to your beautiful executor: really beautiful! but though it wasnt so close to realitz, the flatter one looked sleeker and i liked that better :-) but this is great anyway!
by the way... who needs so big ship??? (i still have the comparison with the city on mind) wel forget it. just kidding. beautiful ship!
*Sigh* How did that thing win...They probably felt bad for him. Anyways, I think it was an amazing star destroyer.I'm not saying this to suck up, but I would have most likely have made you first place. Keep up the good work, and next year right? Or next competition right?
I'm pretty sure I've commented on this before, but I'm also pretty sure I'm not gonna scroll down this page lookin' for it. This is great! Love the detail. The Executor is pretty simple-looking in its most basic form, but you managed to make it look WOW! Oh, and by the way, don't worry about losing. Even though that 'thing' isn't all THAT bad (I've seen worse), Mark Kelso was probably on his was over to judge when he got held up at Dunkin' Donuts and the un-Star Wars-affiliated woman, probably in search of some sort of mega-sale, must've been pulled out of the crowd as a replacement.
wow, that is like finding the hidden object...where is the update? but then I saw the trans red engines and was satisfied ^^

This is AWESOME! I mean it. I don't see how that 'THING' can have anything over this. This is detailed, good looking, close to the real thing. This deserved first place in that fair. So as of now I say 'Keep fighting the good fight'. Well done, I look forward to any new MOCs you make.
I like this spaceship alot! How big is it? I started a new group called 'Only BIG spaceships' and you just might qualify! If the spaceship
is over 3 feet in any dimension, or bigger I just might add you. Can anyone recommend builders that have huge spaceships too?
Great MOC and dont worry about getting 2nd place and lozing to that....thing. At my fair it went like this for the lego models
3rd Jungle cutter
2nd Build a Bob
1st a gram cracker house (not even lego!)
WHAT THE FIREBOMB IS THAT FIRST PLACE WINNER?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! The SSD should have won first place. Whoever made the lousy piece of junk in 1st place must have bribed the judges. I would definitely give it 3rd.
I can completely relate to you and your experience with the fair and LEGO! Everything you said is exactly how it is at my fair. I feel for you buddy, I feel for you...
About the build, all I'll say is: "epic".
Man, I thought I was old but Brian, you were ten when Jedi came out... I was 8. Hey, when you're that age 2 years is a big deal. We won't even start on Kelso here. That guy just counts by tens now. Now then. JD, I should come down there and arrest someone cause you my friend were ROBBED! Please, that sinus glob that beat yours out... Mocpages won't let me type what I'm thinking on that piece of... Never mind. You just completely crushed my dreams of building something in this scale and believe me, that's a good thing! Can't wait to see what you come up with next! ~ Chris.
Well JD, I think you did a good job on this, despite the perspectives of the blue-haired's at the "un-fair," as Heather puts it. It's been my experience that fairs are about THE worst place for anything that can't be eaten to be judged...art, photography, quilts, Legos, etc. (well, I suppose you could eat those things...but they'd probably give you gas) Anyway, you MOC's are really coming along, and this is nice addition to your MOCpages portfolio. I'll look forward to seeing what's next!
Looks good, JD…it really captures the shape very well. I still remember being blown away by the crash scene, as a ten year old boy watching “Jedi” (as Episode VI used to be called before all this “episode” BS) in the theater for the first time. And Episode V? That was called “Empire.” And guess what Episode IV was called. That’s right…”STAR WARS!” You ask some dude back then if he had seen “A New Hope”, and he’s likely to think it’s the new Meryl Streep film… *sigh* Now I feel old. Thanks for making me feel old, JD. Nice MOC though…;-)
Well, the "thing" was probably created by a young child eager to get a bit of fun out of the competition. Well, they got their chance, but when that person is older, they're gonna' see a different result unless they shape up! I agree with Heather, it looks like LEGO sneezed on a baseplate. To be honest, it's quite pathetic to see the sets LEGO creates these days...they're not so different from our "thing".

Welcome to my world JD. The world of the un-Fair. I wish I could have seen this in person but we save all of our money up to "Do the Puyallup." The first year I entered the fair, you should have seen the thing that earned the purple ribbon. I was horrified. Then after the second year I learned the secret. At the puyallup, size matters. They have a size restriction, so you have to fill every cubic inch with LEGO. And throw in as much eye candy as you can. The old gals love some color and detail. No doubt the woman who saw this coming thought. "Hmmm...grey. Couldn't he have made it with COLORS?!" And as far as the first place "thing"... It looks like the LEGO company sneezed on a baseplate and he turned it in. You should have won. Keep It SNOTty Sir!
That's a good looking version of that ship, and some nice blather on the rest of the page. It never crossed my mind to think of them as dagger shape, but now that you say it, it seems as obvious as getting one up the strap. It just goes to show ya. You can watch a movie repeatedly for 30 years and not make every connection. I don't think our state fair had any LEGO judging. A local toy store did a contest. Mostly kids and very few AFOLs. Judging was by ballot by the public who were there or came by. If you had a big family, you could win, with a set. So, you went to the fair, maybe ate something on a stick, and maybe had some fun. That's life, sometimes your parrot isn't dead. garth
Ok, I'm sorry, but if you're going to insult the EU, which is, to me, the best part of Star Wars, since I've watched the films two-zillion times, at least call it by the correct term (Expanded Universe). If you call something "junk" without refering to it by the correct term, it sounds sorta pathetic. Also, the Executor-Class has thirteen engines which are under the hull more. That is, unless you are going for the Super-Class, which is fictional in-universe (no, I suppose you're not). Why don't you go read Shadows of the Empire? It's the best book I've ever read. Anyway, no smileys off for your EU insulting. It's the main reason I wrote a review, anyway.
Did the kid happen to call his "thing" a KUSTUM W4RTH0GG WIF TEH AWSUM M4ST3R CH13F? That always gets the grandma vote. This thing is a beaut, easily the best to it's scale. And I scrapped my containter ship because it just isn't up to standards. I'm gonna try a few more down the road, but that one just wasn't worth posting. And if that little 2 year old can beat ya out, I'm gonna challenge you to a MOC-off. :P
Thanks for let me know that u posted this! this easily my friend is a piece of art... what a hard work you afford at this one... this is 100% accurate... the scale you gone with just got it right... i didn't really understand that contest thing but i do understand this: "HOW COULD THIS "THING" GET FIRST" really that picture u post is really nothing but a messy!! where can i see this contest or what ever its called!? man! not fair at all!! by the way i don't think that u know that i posted a new model yesterday.. any wayzz check it out if you have a time.. peace.. fofo
Well thanks Apple, but next time lets watch our language. =) Here's one thing I forgot to mention: I don't actually compete against the other entries, (I can't even call them MOCs) but instead the judge votes on them. She just happened to not like mine as much as the other stuff.
AAWWOOOOHH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GAUD!!! OH MY FRIDGIN GOD!!! wordless. loss of words. damn! wow! holy ship! my ghood! my jaw is droped, no hanging, 6 inches from my lip! second time thats happened in all my life!!! oh man so many details, so many awesome features i think im in a dream!!!!!!!!!!!
