The J. Edgar Hoover Building - The FBI Headquarters in Washington D.C.
About this creation
The J. Edgar Hoover Building is the headquarters of the FBI. Named after former director J. Edgar Hoover the building was constructed in the brutalist style and opened in the mid 1970s. Criticised for aesthetics and functionality the building was named as one of the "Buildings I'd like to Tear Down."
It features quite frequently in the X-Files and is also partially demolished in the 1999 film 'Arlington Road'. The Lego version also incorporates lights which illuminate the buidling at night. Pictures can be seen on www.flickr.com/rh1985
The building is microscale, but Mulder's office underneath is mini-fig scale incorporating the skylight above Mulder's desk, the 'I WANT TO BELIEVE' poster and Mulder and Scully minifigs.
In one episode the ceiling of the office is shown along with the pencils that Mulder has thrown up there.
Agent Dana Scully in her usual pose - waving a gun and shouting 'Federal Agent. I'm armed!'
The skylight above Mulder's desk
Along with the LEDs that illuminate the skylight the actual building has lights running through it as well.
At one end of Mulder's office is a small ventilation grill
When the lights for the skylight are turned on there is also a bulb illuminating Victor Tombs who has concealed himself in the vent
That's one ugly building! The real one that is. Well, yours is a pretty good replica of the real one as well. Not sure how well I'm conveying to you my satisfaction with the success you had on replicating an ugly building... Son't worry pal, I've been in the same shoes as you before. Quite frankly, if you ask me, the ShangHai Oriental Pearl Tower is quite ugly too, but that didn't stop me from building it.
My favorite all-time X-Files moment is when Mulder has some crazy theory about some weirdness he wants to investigate, and Scully, as per usual, starts to throw out possible rational explanations, and Mulder cuts her off. He says, "We go through this rigmarole on every single case, and who ends up being right like 99 percent of the time? I think I've earned the benefit of the doubt." And Scully has nothing to say. Oh, and good job with the Lego.
NICE! Took me a while to get a grip on the scale of the building. It definitely feels larger than it actually is...the mark of a great micro. The office is looking good, too. Any chance of seeing some Skinner or Smoking Man figs one of these days?
