While I normally create more colorful LEGO portraits, this project was commissioned specifically in black-and-white. (Ironically, the subject was wearing a bold fuschia shirt!) Perhaps his gleaming personality is color enough to brighten the image.
It's not very large (only 15 inches) so it was clear that his facial features were not going to be the priority in this piece. It was more important to me that his bold and fun personality come through in the final result.
As always, I hand-draw my portraits and don't rely on computer programs to tell me where to put the LEGO pieces. (Why ruin all the fun?)
Ahh...another masterpiece from Sean. I'd like to see you make a moc of the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade! That would be awesome. If someone can do it, it's you-Tom
P.S this new mocpages rocks! Thanks!
This is EXCELLENT work Sean. I'm no artist by any stretch so I'll leave the technical talk to guys like Kelso (oh look, he did already... good. my work is done). I was actually thinking about having one done for myself but really... no one want's to see that... no one. Great work sir! Keep em coming! ~ Chris.
Beautiful composition, Sean! I think you were very successful in making it a strong piece without the colors (actually, color can sometimes detract from a piece's impact, depending on the circumstances). Sometimes limitations can bring about great opportunites...you made the most of this one - just terrific!
