Bullpup pump action rifle (working)
a working pump action rifle in bullpup configuration
About this creation
this is a pump action rifle in bullpup configuration. for those of you who dont know what bullpup is, it is when you have the magazine, reciever and chamber behind the handle. bullpup rifles were introduced because (obviously) the design makes the barrel longer in proportion to the overall length of the gun. this makes the gun more accurate, and has the potential to make the gun more powerful with the same calibre bullet (the gas from the explosion is focused on pushing the bullet forward for longer if you have a longer barrel).

the most famous and successful bullpup rifle is the Steyr AUG. other bullpup rifles include the Tavor, FN P2000, FAMAS, and other guns. (the P90 is one, but it is a sub-machine gun, not a rifle)

if all this text is too much for you, you can see a video here which explains it much better.

this gun was originally going to be a FAMAS, but halfway through building it i decided that a pump action would work better that the cocking handle that the FAMAS has. also, building a full scale FAMAS would mean that i would have run put of black pieces - the carrying handle would just have taken too many pieces. it is possible to see the similarities though.

the gun takes a 10 brick magazine (1x4 pieces), any more and the mechanism would jam under the stress of the magazine's rubber band. the bricks are inserted in the magazine in alternating rotations - you put the first one in studs up, then the next one upside-down, then the next upright, and so on. this stops the bricks sticking to each other.

when you pump the shotgun, a rubber band is pulled back, streching through the barrel, like a crossbow would. when the pump gets near the back, it hits a lever which pushes a brick out of the (inserted) magazine, forward and up to be locked in the barrel, in front of the rubber band. this means that when the trigger is pulled, the bullet is released, and the band can push the brick down the barrel.

i have just taken the gun apart, but when i did i took a photo of the insides - for those of you who want to figure out how it works, this might help:

the left side

the right side

the two 10-brick magazines

they can be locked together, with one upside down, so you can change them easily

here you can easily see the bullpup configuration

looking in the magazine well

looking down the 'sights' (theyre not that good)

pump (pumped)

well thats about it - tell me what you think!

Excellent gun definitely among the best guns I have seen on MOCpages. Would you please post a further break down of the mechanism or the other side of it?

you could a least put some picture of the inside of this gun cause ive been able to make the tec-9 with the picture but its not the best gun and this one i think its really great.

Bullpup weapons are definitely the way forwards. Good for close quarters. You can have a bullpup with a barrel the same length as a full weapon but with a much smaller overall size. I am trying to make a working gun but the only trigger mechanism I have the parts to build has the trigger in front so perhaps I will have to make it a bullpup. Also I can't make it work with more than 2 shots.

Awesome. You are truly a great gunsmith. What I really wanna see now is a Heckler & Koch M90
