An equipment rack containing tools and a fuel cell for work outside the LSS Ember Rayne.
About this creation
When work need to be done on the outside of the ship, it is sometimes necessary for the crew members and robots assigned to do that work have ready access to tools and equipment. The Ember Rayne has two of these equipment racks located near the external landing bay for this purpose. They contain tools and equipment needed to repair and service the ship itself and any vehicles that land on the pad.

When not in use, the rack folds up and stores in this configuration.

These three pictures show the equipment rack as it deploys. It is capable of depolying to either side of the support platform. On the Ember Rayne, one side of the platform is adjacent to the landing pad, allowing deck crew access to the tools while working with docked vehicles, and the other side is open to the side of the ship, for repair bots and crew who are servicing the ship itself.

This frame allows the rack the flexibility to extend to either side of the support platform and to be accessible from several angles.

Once deployed, the equipment rack unfolds revealing a computer access point, a rack of tools, and a removable fuel cell for refueling docked vessels. The computer terminal can be used for communications, diagnosing ship repair problems, and for accessing service records. The spot lights help locate the rack in the black of space. As you can see, the rack is designed in a roughly symmetrical shape (up and down), so that it will seam “right side up” no matter how it is approached in zero gravity.

The Fuel Cell, used primarily to refuel support vessels, is removable so it can be taken near the fuel point on any vessel. It can also be used to provide independent power to recharge equipment or isolate power flow problems in ships systems.

There is supposed to be a hose attached to the two lamp eyelet pieces, but since LDD hoses are not flexible like real ones, I will add it when I build this component in actual Lego.

Just inside the ship from the equipment rack is this console. It is mainly there as an added detail for the interior of the ship, and may not have anything to do with the rack itself. The window allows whoever is using the console to monitor the rack's use, though.
