A simple water tower and parking lot for a burgeoning metropolis.
About this creation
The water tower is a fairly iconic image in modern cities and having a particular fascination with them decided to build one for Micropolis. The trick was constructing a tank that looked reasonable at this scale. After playing with literally dozens of prototypes and consulting hundreds of reference images I finally came across a tower configuration very similar to this finished shape in a book of art photography of water towers that I own (I mentioned I had a thing for them). Oddly the photo was of a tower in Denmark so I took that as a good sign and moved on to figuring out what to put on the rest of the module.
My girlfriend pointed out that we did not have any parking lots yet and figured that would be a fairly good match and also work well as a kind of visual disparity between the flat expanse populated with little bumps of cars against the soaring structure nearby.
The pump house also went through quite a few iterations before ending up with this simple blocky building next to the tower along with the little bit of pipework to fill in some detail.
I think I am most happy with the parking attendant's booth at the entrance/exit of the parking lot. Single 1x1 tiles blocked too much of the lane but switching to the dark transparent cheese wedges worked perfectly and make for a really nice little booth.
Oh, very good, very good, I've been trying to find a way to add a water tower to my microcity Blocktropolis, but as its at a much smaller scale than this I'm finding it downright impossible... anyway, please come and review Blocktropolis.
