Another rendition of the legendary Mini Cooper, this time in minifig scale.
About this creation
There's many of us who are fans of the original Mini Cooper and have been inspired by this car to build MOCs based on that. However, I found it surprising that minifig-scaled LEGO Minis are quite rare - and to me, the charm of any model is actually making it fit into a "real" LEGO town. So I tried to make an exact replica of a 1968 Austin Mini Cooper Mk II in minifig-scale (of course, as much as LEGO bricks and my skills would allow there to be such a replica :) )
The model was fairly easy to build, especially with blue and white-coloured bricks being widely available. Of course, once it was more or less constructed, it did take some tweaking in order to reach the true look and feel of its original counterpart.
Single right-side rear view mirror - just like the original back in 1968. I did not have the plates to make a studless top of the car, but I feel that it looks even better this way, even though some purists among you might disagree ;)
I tried hard to come as close as possible to the real thing without making the car look too gaudy - after all, the simple yet catchy design is what made the Mini Cooper a true legend in the first place.
The rear end of the car gave me the biggest of headaches and I went through at least 10 designs, trying to reach a "real" look. However, in the end, I resorted to just using the most simple design since the other ones were really too tacky.
There it is, the original 1968 Austin Mini Cooper Mk II.
Quoting Veeble Fetzer
Meh. This isn't that impressive.
Who said it was anyway!? Obviously, I've hardly tried to make it look "impressive" :) This is just a small car which was supposed to look as much like the original Mini as possible in minifig scale - with the general idea being that it had to fit into my LEGO city... Lighten up, fella ;]
