This town is the symbol of my childhood - all the town Lego my brother Chris and I collected from years 5-18 of my life.
About this creation
The Legoland from my past came back to haunt me on Friday, January 23rd. My brother Chris came to visit from Nowhere, California. (Actually, Posey - good luck finding it on a map.) He brought his sizable portion of Legoland.

Chris was always into airplanes. His portion of Legoland includes the airport (with accoutrements) - he brought another airport with him, a recent addition from a shopping spree, but that wasn't part of the original town - and most of the buildings on that half of town.

My portion included the dock, fire station, and a large collection of race cars. I was obsessed with cars (not much has changed) and made them my focus.

While Chris visited, we discussed how Legoland changed over the years. It began as a bike shop and motorcycle repair shop with a few cars. As we added buildings and vehicles, Dad gave us boards to place the sets on. When Legoland added road plates, we ditched the boards and kept collecting.

But somehow, things went horribly wrong. The great fire of '91 (I'm guessing on the year) destroyed the town. A robot rose out of its ashes, but it was a pathetic dissappointment compared to the glory of municipal goodness. Legoland was rebuilt, better and more colorful, with fewer out-of-the-box sets, since we had lost most of the directions.

Legoland saw many more changes, as we purchased lots of bricks and accessories direct from Lego. Then, when I left for college, it was boxed up. Sadly, Legoland made only one appearance since that time, until recently. Now, its glory shall endure forever in the digital domain.

My brother and I used to also have our own "portion" of Legoland, he had a city and I had my own. I remember it was fun to visit the 'other' city. Our cities also had schools just like yours!!!

This!! this is something I always really wanted as a kid! looks nice and playful, not too serious (unlike my building themes) and just brings me back to my earlier years with them lego sets. Great work my friend, great work!

Hello Wes, this is so great. It makes me think of my childhood in the 80s and early 90s and some earlier layouts I made. I also played and often built for my younger brother - we were Lego buddies until he stopped playing when he became a teenager. I never stopped... :) And because it was always so much fun to play with, about every town of mine had a car repair shop and/or a scrapyard:) And trains, of course. Anyways, I love childhood memories like yours and have as well posted two earlier layouts. I think you might like them, too. Best regards from Germany, Steffen

How could I give this any less than an "EXCELLENT" rating!? I am Chris, the "other half" of this municipal monstrosity! Lego Land is a symbol and icon of our childhoods. We set up Lego Land practically every weekend of our lives, and after seeing it set up again after being boxed in storage for almost 15 years, our halves separated by hundreds of miles, it was so surreal and magnificent to see it all put back together!!

Commander Fox - I wholeheartedly concur - with your choice of adjectives, and your sentiments. Due to my staggering lack of foresight, I neglected to take close-ups of anything. Most of my wide-angle shots were blurry, too. Hopefully, I can get Chris to send me some good pics.
