Roman Bathhouse . . The bathhouse was a key building in any Roman town and no less so in Pagnovaria. Not just a place where the locals could keep themselves clean and healthy but also a key place to socialise. The bathhouse at Pagnovaria is located between the classical Roman Temple and the Romano-Celtic Temple, just opposite the forum/basilica. The water at the bathhouse comes from a tributary of the River Peg and the water runs on into the River Peg. Like most bathhouses this complex has a Caldarium (Hot room/water), Tepidarium (Warm Room/water) and frigidarium (cold room/water). The caldarium is furthest from the front door followed by the Tepidarium, then the frigidarium. At the rear of the bathhouse is access to the hypocaust, which warmed the caldarium and Tepidarium. The bathhouse also boasts changing rooms and a gymnasium where the men would exercise before bathing. The interior layout out has been inspired from images of the bath complex at Bath, England. These photos show the building in isolation, please refer to photos of the other builindgs at Pagnovaria for more contextual photos.
