Philosophy of a Machine #9 . Escape. Our machine protaganist gets our of jail free with the help of some guy in dark blue, named Phaze... . Good morning, afternoon, or evening, veiwer. Is is 7:29 PM at the time of this writing, but this comic will undoubtedly be posted later than that. I'm waiting for someone... Read on, though, dear veiwer.
(VF-S 1 sits in a more secure cell, waiting for when they come. The machine isnít really bothered, except by the time he heard a bit of static, but it faded. He doesnít feel like this is his time. So he sits, and waits, listening to that voice named Phaze.)
Phaze: So, VF-S 1. The time has come. I need you to take cover.
VF-S 1/Varion: BY YOUR COMMAND, THEN.
(The wall explodes, the startled machine getting out of the way just in time.)
VF-S 1/Varion: STUPID ORGANICS! YOUR WALLS ARE WEAK AS YOUR BODIES!
(Varion clambers out of the well placed hole, hopefully to meet this Phaze who has been talking to him.)
(The voice guides him to an alley near the Zacynthus Spaceport.)
Phaze: Ah, youíve made itÖ
VF-S 1/Varion: WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Phaze: Itís a long story. Iím Phaze, leader of Serenity Squad. And youíve got something we need.
VF-S 1/Varion: SPEAK YOUR NEEDS.
Phaze: Youíve got information.
VF-S 1/Varion: I THOUGHT YOU ALREADY GOT OF ALL THAT. OR WERE THE EVENTS ON KORON JUST STAGED?
Phaze: Those were real, but the information is still being rewritten from Coalition files to Skaborr files. Our programs our much more advanced than yours, so they arenít compatible.
VF-S 1/Varion: I HESITATE TO GIVE YOU ANYTHING. HOW DO I KNOW THIS IS NOT SOME ELABORATE PLOY BY THE ONES WHO WANT ME DEAD?
Phaze: You donít. Look, we know what youíve been through.
VF-S 1/Varion: ACCUSED OF SOMETHING YOU HAD NO CONTROL OVER, PUT IN A RIGGED TRIAL, AND NOW WANTED BY THE GOVERNMENT?
Phaze: Well, not exactly like thatÖ But Iíll tell you later what I mean.
(The two walk through the crowded upper, open air levels of Zacynthus Spaceport.)
VF-S 1/Varion: THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. THERE IS A COALITION GUARD NOT TEN FEET AWAY.
Phaze: Relax. Heís looking the other way.
VF-S 1/Varion: I DO NOT THINK YOU UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION, ORGANIC. I AM WANTED BY THE COALITION GOVERNMENT, DEAD OR ALIVE, AND IF THE WRONG PEOPLE GET NEWS OF THIS ESCAPE, IT COULD MEAN DOOM FOR ALL SENTIENT MACHINES. I WILL NOT HAVE THAT. NOW, TELL ME, HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET OFF THYRENDA?
Phaze: Iíve got a ship. Itís not 40 feet down the hall. Iíll explain everything once weíre past the planetary rings.
VF-S 1/Varion: THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON HERE NOW.
(The machine raises his arm suddenly.)
Phaze: Now that Iím explaining, you wonít let me explain?!
VF-S 1/Varion: SHUT UP, ORGANIC. SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE.
Phaze (sighing): Here we go againÖ
VF-S 1/Varion: I THINK WE ARE BEING WATCHED.
Phaze: Oh really?
VF-S 1/Varion: THERE IS SOMETHING ON THAT BALCONY, ON THAT TOWER OVER THERE. I CANNOT MAKE IT OUT, THOUGH.
Phaze: All the more reason to get the hell out of here!
VF-S 1/Varion: YOU ARE LUCKY, WATCHER, THAT THE STARíS GLARE OBSCURES MY VISION OF YOU.
(VF-S 1 leaves with Phaze.)
(An hour later.)
Man in white: He was here.
Man in cloak: Our assassin failed.
Thyrendi: Now thatís too bad and all, but can I please re-open this hall?
(The man in cloak pulls a gun on the Thyrendi.)
Man in cloak: You failed us.
Man in white: You were supposed to block the way to their escape ship.
Thyrendi: I did! I have the paperwork! I donít know what happened! Blame it on Thyr for all I care, I donít know what happened!
(The bells of Zacynthus strike noon. The sunís glare is hotter than ever.)
Man in white: What do you want to do?
Man in cloak: I say shoot him, he failed us, and by doing so, has endangered the entire balance of this galaxy.
Man in white: Alright, do it.
Thyrendi: Wait- no, youíre not serious!
Man in cloak: Make peace with your god.
Thyrendi: You canít do this! You donít know who I am!
Man in white: We know who you are, and we donít care. See you on the other side.
(The trigger is pulled.)
Fun but-not-really facts:
Two BSG refferences, at least intended ones. I bet I have another unintentional one in there too.
Why didn't the sniper shoot? Read Gus's Haywire to find out (link below).
Who the flux are those guys in white? Wait a few episodes.
This episode marks the begining of Varion's time with Serenity Squad, for Phaze's story. I'm not sure if Phaze wants me to go further into it with 10, or give him total control from here on out. Cuz I got some important stuff coming up here...
Oh, why yes, the good VF-S 1 is not only unrightsousley (Oh god, I butchered that word) convicted of treason, but also an escaped convict. He's in for it now if the COP get him... UH OH! This means he's rogue! Oh crap, we got a rogue sentient machine on the loose...Next thing we know, VF-S 1 will dissappear for 40 years, come back looking like us, nuke our planets, and leave 50,000 survivors in a rag tag fleet trying to find a new home. Oh wait, that's BSG. Just ignore this whole paragraph, will ya?
You really out to be reading these, you know. And leave them a comment, they deserve one. Because Gus is a COP admin, and Anders is under-appreciated as a comic set maker.
