HMS King George V . King George V Class Battleship. Formerly the Prince of Wales, this model recieved more than just a new name during the refit. . Displacing 38,000 tons at standard load, these ships were armed with 10 BL 14-inch Mk VII guns in a unique arrangement of two quadruple turrets, A and Y, and a twin B turret. A couple of shots I thought might be useful to show the scale and internal structure of the ship's hull. As can be seen, most of the superstructure and the main battery removes on individual 'slabs' of deck to simplify construction. A comparison between the Battleship and my light cruiser, HMS Belfast. They are to scale, with stands that place their waterline at the same height. The bow shots show how the KGV manages to weigh in at more than 3 times the weight of the CL despite being only slightly longer - damn tha's a lot of tonnage for a lady! images ttr The images below show the ship as built, prior to minor modifications (aft DCT and mast area) and her major refit (boat deck, AA armament).
