MOC Olympics round 6 - Steef de Prouw vs. Kevin Fedde . My entry for round 6 in the MOC Olympics: a famous painting by a Dutch master in lego! . - MOC Olympics Round 6 - Category: Mosaic - My opponent for this round: Kevin Fedde Yes, here it is. Johannes Vermeers famous masterpiece 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' (circa 1665). Sometimes referred to as "the Mona Lisa of the North" or "the Dutch Mona Lisa", this painting hangs in a museum in my hometown The Hague. (It helps if you sit back a bit. Or look through your eyelashes, haha!) Here it is on the desk. I thought that might give you a sense of scale. Pity I didn't include more space around it then ;-) Some stats: - Dimensions: 64 x 48 studs (50 cm x 38 cm) - Dimensions of the original painting 44.5 cm x 39 cm - Speed: 0 Mph - Weapons: None - Crew: None - Onboard swimming pools: don't be rediculous. Closeup shot of the mouth area. Building picture. I've used a bunch of narrow plates on top of two 32x32 ground plates and two 32X16 ground plates as a basis. The compare shot. I think this went pretty well, considering: a. I had never done a mosaic in my life before (either with lego or with other materials), b. I cannot draw or paint myself and c. I was trying to imitate one of the great masters of painting (Man, faces are hard!). Actually, I am rather proud how this turned out. More information about the painting on wikipedia.
