The Chicken and her Egg . Meet our robot, that behaves like a real animal. It's made of parts from the Lego Mindstorms NXT 1.0 set. The design is based on the Tribot. This robot is our first prototype to create moving Lego animals. Visit our homepage to see our newest animals. Please enjoy the video of our NXT chicken! . Watch this video to see our chicken in action. Chicken photo shoot Autonomous operating robot, driven by sensor controlled servomotors. Chicken behind with movable tail feather. Chicken with its wings in fold in position. Chicken robot featuresChicken driven by two independent servomotors. Movable chicken wings driven by servomotor. Ultrasonic sensor eyes to change direction, in order to avoid impact with obstacles. Touch sensor to turn backwards after impact with obstacles. Sound sensor to signal “dangerous” loud noises, in order to run away at high speed and with fast turns. Light sensor to signal & follow the black line to the chickens’ main destination, her nest. Loudspeaker generates typical chicken sounds, such as self recorded “cluck cluck” sounds using NXT 2.0 software of set 8547. The “cluck cluck” sound is partly generated randomly. Bluetooth remote control enables to drive the chicken in manual mode, using NXT 2.0 software. Display shows the chickens’ mood, which can be “sleeping”, “awake” or “scared”. Moving tail feather which is connected to the third wheel. Chicken with fold in wings (left side) & fold out wings to hold the egg (right side). Chicken mood as shown on the display: “awake” (left side) and “scared” (right side). About the robot design The design is based on the Tribot robot. See the Mindstorms NXT 1.0 set (8527) for the building instructions. Main design modifications:Position of Tribot arms (or Chicken wings) is changed to enable 170° rotation. Position of Ultra sonic sensor (or Chicken eyes) is changed to observe obstacles. Touch sensor mechanism is changed to signal impacts with obstacles. Light sensor position is changed and protected for other light sources (with non Lego plastic tape). Sound sensor position is changed to prevent that the chicken will respond on its own sounds. Chicken “looks” created with chicken bill, wings & tail. Almost all parts are present in the NXT 1.0 set. A completely new software program is implemented, using the NXT 2.0 software tool (8547). If desired, the NXT 1.0 software tool can be used too, but in that case self recorded sounds and Bluetooth remote control is not available.
