U.C.A.T.L.A. strike group . Left to right: Strike Cruiser and hulk ship. Not much of a list, is it? . The U.C.A.T.L.A. (United Coalition Against Three Letter Acronyms) was formed by a group of disaffected soldiers from states like the U.N.E., C.O.P., L.I.U., E.O.S., I.S.C., T.L.A., and P.C.S. who believed that naming entire nations using three-letter acronyms would inevitably lead to a complete loss of creativity in the Galaxy. Labeled a terrorist group by nearly every nation, they strike at random and flee before authorities can respond. Their fleets are scrounged from derelicts and civilian vessels, but as long as they're fast enough to evade pursuit and powerful enough to damage logistic and industrial facilities, they pose a serious threat to Galactic civilization. First up: a U.C.A.T.L.A. hulk ship. These vessels are built from scraps of derelict vessels around an enormous mass driver and a few secondary missile launchers and rail guns. Although slow and unwieldy in normal space, their huge capacitor banks allow them to jump in near their targets, open fire, and jump out again before the authorities arrive. Their mass drivers' long range means that the inaccuracies which are an integral part of hyper navigation don't put much of a damper on their attack. Side view. This particular ship has a missile launcher and a rail gun mounted for self defense against patrol vessels. Other side. This portion of the ship, made from a relatively intact patrol cruiser hull, contains the fuel tanks, capacitors, and living space for the crew. Forward view. Meant to be a top view, but really sort of a slightly higher forward view. Engine. Attack hulks are relatively slow in normal space as I said. It's not that they couldn't find a bigger engine, but high acceleration would tear the ramshackle structure apart. These ships, which the U.C.A.T.L.A. pompously calls "strike frigates" are actually just stolen and converted liners. They're fast in normal space (because most of the passenger space and entertainment facilities have been stripped out) but not much else. Equipped with small missile launchers and dual rail guns, they run through blockades and protect attack hulks during large-scale operations, which are relatively rare. Front. Top. Main engine. HAH! Where's the secondary engine, that's what I'd like to know...
