Blown Away Guy . In which our hero hears nothing but "Ride of the Valkyries" for hours straight. . The guy in the Maxell ad campaign from a magical time known as the 80s. Originally, this was going to be the project I bring to Brickworld, but the more I thought about it the more I realized just how impossible that would be. First, I'm flying there and I'm aiming for zero carry-ons besides a backpack; I pack light and know the way of the hobo so that's no sweat. But I wouldn't be able to build this in such a way that it would survive the trip. Second, I decided I know nothing of sculpture. I barely made it through that head, and that was only because I had Sean Kenney's work as a guide (credit for the head design goes squarely to him, by the way). Building an actual torso was, for lack of a dirtier phrase, not happening. So it won't be coming to Chicago. A few smaller projects will likely make the trip in its place. Need to save room for swag, anyway. - - - - - The color version: Work-in-progress shot. The head was my top priority, as it always is. See? No body. Just enough to make seen what needs to be seen. Yes, that is a shot glass balancing the weight of the leg.
