Dracula’s Daughter . Dracula’s Daughter was an outstanding 1936 Black and White film from Universal Studios starring Edward Van Sloan reprising his role as Van Helsing and Gloria Holden as Countess Marya Zaleska, or Dracula’s Daughter. We originally built this to post May 11th for the 74th anniversary of the release of the film, but well….we forgot. . Dracula’s Daughter was the sequel to Dracula and takes place immediately after Dracula ends. This was a great movie as it took the standard vampire story and altered it in an original way. The premise of this film is that Dracula’s Daughter, also a vampire, believes that by destroying her father’s body she will be rid of the vampire curse. One other interesting element of this film is the strong lesbian overtones, something almost unheard of in 1936. The Countess Zaleska loves to look at flawless features in the mirror of her sitting room. Unfortunately, she never sees her own reflection looking back at her. Lonely and desperate to rid herself of the vampire curse, she sits alone in her room with only the bats and spiders for company. She is, Dracula’s Daughter, and destined to meet the same fate her father did. Dem Notes: We wanted to get this posted as it has been sitting around for awhile, along with two other creations. Work and life have rudely interrupted the fantasy world of Mister Bones and we do not know when regular production will resume. Until that time, we hope you enjoy this latest addition to the Dem Bones Monster Series.
