RC Tow Truck . This is a 8285 LEGO-set, which is changed a little bit and now it's totally remotely controllable! . The Components This MOC is basically made of the LEGO set 8285, “Tow Truck”. I’ve added all the PF-stuff: 1 Battery-Box 3 IR-Sensors 1 XL-motor 6 M-motors 1 Switch I’ve also added some parts. All these parts are visible on the following photo. The numbers under the parts mean how often they’re added. The Functions All the original functions of the model are motorized. These are the following functions: Steering: The steering motor is a M-motor, which is immediately connected to the steering axle. The “Hand-of-God”-function is removed. I wanted to do the steering with a XL-motor, because they’ve fewer revolutions per minute and they’re stronger. But a XL-motor didn’t fit between the two chairs. On this photo, the M-motor is shown: On the following photos you can see how far the wheels can turn left and right. Driving: For driving the whole model, I’ve used a XL-motor, but I had to offer the motor beneath the hood. With this move, I created a lot of space, so I also could put an IR-receiver beneath the hood. On this photo you see the XL-motor and the IR-receiver: Extracting boom: This function is powered by a M-motor. This is the motor in the middle of the following photo: You can also see the motor on this photo, which is made from the other side of the truck. It is again the motor in the middle. The M-motor is immediately attached to the axle, so the ratio is 1:1. Lowering hook: I wanted to put this motor also in the length-axis of the truck but it didn’t fit. Now it’s situated in the width-axis of the truck. The motor is connected to the winch by some gears. The rattle is still in the model. Both these functions are controlled via IR, and the IR-receiver is situated behind one of the flaps, where the functions in the original model were controlled manually. Lowering entire boom: This function is driven by a M-motor, which is situated in the length-axis of the truck. The motor is immediately connected to the axle, so the angle can be nicely adjusted. Outtriggers: The outtriggers are also remotely controllable. To make this able, I had to rotate the worm wheel over 90 degrees. This was pretty tough, because the worm wheel was fixed pretty tight. After I had rotated the worm wheel, a M-motor could be easily fixed to the out sticking axle. These last two functions are both remotely controlled via IR, and also this IR-receiver is situated behind one of these flaps. Pneumatic function: There lasts one M-motor and this M-motor is used to drive a small compressor. The M-motor drives a small camshaft and a small pneumatic pump is been pushed in and out so you get some air out of a tube. This is used as a usual pump. The motor isn’t been controlled remotely, but you have to turn it on by a switch. This switch is also situated behind one of these flaps. The Battery-Box: The Battery-Box is situated just behind the cabin. It is very easy to take it out of it position to switch batteries. Here you can see the Battery-Box on his place.
