Legend Class Frigate - "Shooting Star" (Battlestar Galactica) . Ladies and gentlemen, here I may present you the 'Legend Class Frigate' also called 'Shooting Star'. This creation ties losely with El Barto´s "Battlestar Galactica - The Next Chapter" storyline. Thanks for the inspiration, my friend! . With the lately found 'Galactica' human starship craftsmanship made a huge leap forward. Several Battlestars were ordered in order to face a possible Cylon menace, according to the records found aboard the 'Galactica'. The DOSD (Department Of Space Defence) also called for a smaller, but as well heavily armed vessel. The Legend Class program was born. This was done for several reasons: 1st: A ship for support and scouting purposes was needed. 2nd: Huge firepower on a highly agile platform was requested. And most important 3rd: These frigates could be built in a comparatively short period of time. With the 'Galactica' out of reach on her next mission, searching for Kobol, the DOSD din´t want to be left behind with empty hands and soon the first ships were launched. The new frigate incorporated lots of design elements from the 'Galactica'. For example the characteristic 'head' and the two protruding pods on the ship´s sides. The head hangar. Enough space for a standard 'Colonial Shuttle'. In this case it is a medium sized freight shuttle from an earlier production line on Earth. Launch Control: "Hanjin 308, you´ve just cleared the hangar and are reday to go, bon voyage!" (LC officer is french, not the freighter captain.) H308: "See you in three weeks. H308 out!" This is maybe the deadliest weapon of the 'Legend Class'. The strategic missile launcher. It consists of two heavily armoured missile pods, which can be loaded with different types of missiles, or even replaced by other equipment if needed. There´s always at least one missile in the barrel, just in case. Shortly after its launch the first weapon tests took place. Here we see the 'Poseidon' firing her impressive main batteries - an improved version of the ones used aboard the 'Galactica'. Of course, the 'Galactica has a lot more of these! Two of these are located on the dorsal and ventral side of the Legend Class. In the upper right corner you can see the smaller hangar roof artillery, also used for AA purposes. A Raptor approaching the 'Poseidon', returning from a training mission. Right behind the massive thrusters you can see the launch tubes. (Two on each side. A Legend Class usually carries 16 Vipers. Even more are possible, if the conditions of war dictate that.) A special flap sytem inside the thrusters prevents the Vipers from getting harmed by the exhaust during launch. Ventral view of the ship with two main batteries. Some engineering equipment, mostly waste tanks and static dischargers. The really vulnerable parts are buried under loads of armour plating deep within the ship´s body. The auxiliary hangar, right under the main hangar, on the launch tube level. Even though the Legend Class is not a carrier ship, the main hangar represents a major part of the vessel. The powerful engines inside the protruding pods provide the frigate with excellent maneouverability at extremly high speeds. Excellent for evading enemy fire. Here we see the first three ships of the line: The 'Poseidon', the 'Excalibur' and the 'Holy Grail'. Each ship carries a golden symbol directly connected to its name, or representing the name itself. The 'Poseidon' carries a trident, the 'Excalibur' a sword and the 'Holy Grail' a goblet. Some pics of the Poseidon following her daily business: Click to get to El Barto!´s page, you must see his BSG creations! I had a lot of fun building this, while editing the pics was a pain in the arse! But, it was worth the effort, I guess!? Anyways, this is my first BSG related MOC. Couldn´t be an admin of a BSG group without a creation of my own any longer. Thanks vor viewing!
