Viking Ship . A micro-scale model of a Viking cargo ship. . Viking ships routinely carried 20 tons of goods (in this case white and colored wool and iron ore) along the European costs and the North Atlantic. The front and rear shapes of the hull are almost identical, so that the ship can change its direction of travel without turning. These ships were propelled by a rectangular sail. Twelve pairs of oars are provided for times of calm for this ship, but as many as 30 pairs of oars were used for war ships. Not all ships show the stereotypical dragon head, but this one does. Note the rudder at the back and the construction of the sail. As usual, only standard parts available from pick-a-brick were used.
