BrickWorld 2011 Recap! . . Welcome one and all to the BrickWorld 2011 recap! Man was it a blast! Every year it just gets better and better. This is a really long post with lots of pics so let's get to it! Thursday morning. Time to load the car and get over to the Westin for load in. No, this isn't all mine. Lots of people from our collaborative shipped their mocs to my house since shipping was cheaper and easier than trying to bring it on a plane. Looks nice and neat now huh?... For those that have seen Kevin Walter's "Barad Dur" post... the build arrived at my house from Germany in two boxes. One looked normal... THIS was the other one. Kinda gives you all a new appreciation for what Kevin went through to get that thing back together so quickly huh? It was a real trick but I got everything squeezed in the car and only had to take one trip. Just glad I didn't have any passengers. They woulda had to ride on the roof. Kevin's psychosis started early as you can see. Good thing we had a doctor in the group to keep us all medicated. Dennis Price and Leda Kat helping set up my Isengard build. The layout with the map before we REALLY started filling it in. That map was painted by Master Kelso of course. I really think it was that "finishing touch" that brought the whole thing together. Thank you Mark! Kevin and Dr. Lee Jones discussing just how far Kevin thinks he can throw this thing. Things are "starting" to come together at this point but there's still a LONG way to go. Dave Kaleta, Dennis Price and Dennis' daughter Kelsey reassembling Mr. Bones' (who couldn't make it but shipped his build. THANK YOU BONES!) Osgiliath. Leda and George Kemper trying to figure out which white piece goes where with Kelso's parts of Minas Tirith. Tyler Halliwell, Shannon Ocean and Anthony Dunne working on the rock wall for the front of Minas Tirith. Stacy Sterling, Lee Jones and on the floor there we can see Lee's wife Danette. Not exactly sure what's up with Lee's pelvic thrust there but he IS next to Stacy so... moving on. Then it was time to get the figs ready... Lee brought about 10,000 but only about 2,000 made it to the final layout (my best guess, Lee might know a more accurate number). Here you can see we enlisted the help of some other MOCpagers as well as Lee's kids and wife and Tyler's Dad. Shannon Ocean rebuilding the rock face on Minas Tirith. Heck, he did so much work on this thing I'm going to call this a three way collab between myself, Mark and the awesome Ocean! Thanks brother! Kevin, me and Tyler trying to get together some of the last few hundred orcs before opening the doors. We simply ran out of time as there was still a good few thousand figs not put together and plated for the event. Lee and his lovely wife Danette. Or shall I say, my extended family. The doors for the public are opened on Saturday morning and Middle Earth is drawing a lot of attention. Dennis in a rare moment of "relaxation." Didn't happen much those 4 days so we took advantage when we could. The Ravina Ball Room. We usually call this the "main room" as it's the largest. The MOCpages gang was mostly in the Botanic room. Everyone sing along! The loooooove boat! Soon we'll be making another run.... The EuroBricks collaborative. This thing was all kinds of funky cool! I loved it! Great work from our EB brothers! The BlackTron layout. Mark Larsen. Always a pleasure to see you man! It's funny though how he always calls me by my full name. "Hi Chris Phipson!" To which I reply of course "Hi Mark Larsen!" Good guy. I'll just shut up for a few pics here... enjoy! You all know that I'm not the world's biggest HALO fan but when something's cool, it's just COOL! Nice work on this one! Nannan and Legohaulic's awesome layout. This thing really has to be seen in person to be appreciated. Here's the line of public still waiting to get in a good hour and a half after the doors opened. Ya know, for all the people that say we're geeks and nerds there's a WHOLE lot of "normal" people who pay good money to see it. Here I am with Nathan Ingerson from MOCpages. Great kid and his dad was really nice too. Glad you could make it Nathan and I hope to see you again next year. It was great to meet you! Dinner time on Saturday night. Let's go around the table clockwise shall we? Kevin Walter, Leda Kat, Dave Kaleta, Shannon Ocean, Anthony Dunne, Kelsey Price, Dennis Price, Mitzi Price (looking away in shame of course. Being married to Dennis will do that to ya), and Heath Flor. Here I am with Nick Jensen of MOCpages fame! I met so many great people this weekend it was hard to keep track of who was who! All too soon it was time for tear down. I gave Dave Sterling the honor of kicking my portion of Minas Tirith to the floor and he literally JUMPED (onto the table) at the chance. Usually it's his wife that we want on the tables but hey, beggers can't be choosers. Annnnd there she goes! After tear down it was time for our annual Phipson/Jones dinner. There was SO MUCH FOOD! That's my daughter attacking the MASSIVE ice cream that we ordered. You can see my wife on the end there eyeballing the platter of cakes that she and Danette ordered. Lee's daughter feeding him. Dang Lee, I didn't know your mouth opened THAT wide... oh wait, never mind. In closing, here's a shot of all the MOCpagers that I could wrangle together at the same time (On Saturday). This 4 days went by so quickly and I can't believe we have to wait another whole year to do it again! ARGH! Fourth Wall Commentary: I'll keep this short. To all my friends, I love you all and can't wait till next year. To all my new friends, it was great to meet you all and I hope you decide to make a habbit of returning to BrickWorld to hang out with us every year. Before you ask, I'll be making another post for our collaborative layout. Till 2012 true believers! ~Chris.
