7 World Trade Center, New York . Model completed in 2011 . This model is approximately 1/650th scale, similar to my other skyscrapers. 8 Pictures available on 7 World Trade Center is the first skyscraper constructed at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 attacks. It replaces the old building with a completely new design created by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill. The tower hosts a dazzling array of safety and energy efficiency features. The building opened in 2006. The new tower occupies a smaller portion of the trapezoidal shaped footprint of its predecessor, yet is about 130ft taller and has nearly the same amount of rentable office space. Greenwich Street has now been restored through the site separating the tower from a newly created small park. 7 World Trade Center features an ultra clear glass façade built above a reconstructed Con Ed electrical substation that is clad in stainless steel louvers for ventilation. Finding good quality trans-clear elements for this project was extremely difficult as recently many of LEGO’s trans-clear tiles and plates were being made with an ugly yellowish hue. The model’s base is clad in pearl light grey tiles giving it a metallic luster. A close up view showing the Greenwich Street entrance to the building.
