GSG-9 Assault . Nobody messes around with GSG-9... . OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP Code: FIREWIND Status Report 1389 From: Bundespolizie Headquarters To: GSG-9 Strike Team 8 2200 hours Operation CLEAN SWEEP has been approved by German High Command. Extensive surveillance over a 2 week period shows the 4 individuals located in Berlin apartment complex 362 have accumulated military grade weapons, munitions, and explosives for use in their planned attack on the Berlin Underground. Individuals are considered armed and highly dangerous. You have been authorized to use lethal force. That is all. Command, out END TRANSMISSION. German GSG-9 Federal Police prepare to breach and clear the shabby apartment. GSG-9 Team 8 “stacked” (hand on shoulders, lined up, weapons drawn) and calmly waiting for the order to breach and clear. A rear shot of the whole scene. Side pic, with the overall chaos of the apartment providing a stark contrast to the crisp, neat lines of the GSG-9 officers. Money for the terrorist's illegal operations lays strewn on a table, while grenades attached to timers are placed in a box for use in various nefarious operations. The apartment's grungy kitchen, with a sink, stove, refrigerator, and beer bottle. The terrorist's lunch is heating up on the stove; it's a pity none of them will ever taste it... A small table serves as an impromptu bomb-making station. 2 pallets of illegal Russian 40mm grenades stand by. A long view of the kitchen. The cramped living/bed room, used as a general meeting place; probably my favorite room in the whole dio. A long view of the living space. The window has no curtains or blinds, a fatal oversight for the terror cell. Looking out over an abandoned junk yard, the terrorists think they are safe from surveillance, unaware that a GSG-9 recon team has been steadily spying on them for the past 2 weeks from the interior of a rusted out van. A TV feeds the terrorists information on worldwide events, while a rat scurries across the floor. Another view of the living space. Note propaganda banners and double-barreled shotgun. The tiny bathroom contains a toilet, sink, mirror, and shower laden with ammunition. An AR-15 assault rifle, prepared as a last-stand weapon, lies next to the ammo crate. A spider scurries up the wall, looking for prey. An overhead pic of the tiny bathroom. While it may seem simple, I’m rather proud of how I managed to fit so much into it. The terror cell's leader, chugging down some beer and armed with a MAC-10 submachine gun. He's about to get the evening newspaper...not a smart move. Every “good” terror cell needs a competent bomb maker, and this one is no exception. A retired technical engineer, this terrorist is making IEDs to be placed in the Berlin Underground. The weapons-runner of the group, this terrorist is calling his superiors to see what types of AK assault rifles are available for use. The telecommunications expert, planning out the attack. She's an idealistic college student with a background in technology. GSG-9 Strike Team 8, geared up and ready to roll. GSG-9's equipment from left to right: reinforced riot/battering shield, blast-proof armor, body armor, bullet/stab-proof helmet with visor, Stunball grenade, H&K MP5k submachine gun, SPAS-12 shotgun loaded with breaching rounds, and H&K USP semi-automatic pistol. The terrorists lined up. My favorite bits from the apartment: the mattress, TV, grenade pallet, and Macbook. The double-barreled shotgun, a 100% LEGO purist design which I am very proud of. The dio with figs removed. Background Info: I got the entire idea for this creation when I looked through my old City instruction booklets and found alternate stickers for a Police set in German. I thought up an idea where German special police were about to clear an apartment, while the occupants went blissfully about their business. As per my LEGO-building routine, I exhaustively researched the famed GSG-9's history before I started; the fact that I have been to a live-fire SWAT/SOG team exercise helped me out, too. It took me about 2 days of joyful building to make the whole dio; actually, the nastiest part was concentrating on the build while Hurricane Irene whipped up a frenzy outside. I'm very happy with how the creation turned out, although I wish I had had enough gray tiles to replace the black top wall ones. Still, I consider this to be one of my favorite little creations, and I hope you've enjoyed it! Please feel free to rate and/or comment!
