MOC Olympics Round 1 . My entry into the first round of the 2011 MOC Olympics. . WARNING-------LINK FOR SAFETY!!!!------> MOC Olympics HOME After a few brief days of "WTF were the judges thinking", I still had no clue what to create or even a category that interested me. While I thought I would be cute and make a miniland Earth, Wind, and Fire band....Batman said we could only use one category. Bollocks. My category is "Winter", and is a chainsaw carved ice castle made by the infamous ice castle carvin', chainsaw wielding twins -- Hans, and Hanz. They don't need a last name, because I can't seem to make one up at the moment. Here we find a spectator ooooooooohing, and ahhhhhhhhhing at their spectacular sculpture. I love those little minifig "OH Faces". Here we find Hanz and Hans finishing the rear corner of the castle. Nearly 3/4 of the way done, the boys are anxious to get home and down some brew. A photographer from the local newspaper snaps some photos for the morning paper. Here we see Hans carving away. Get it....Hans? As in Han in I'm using a Han Solo torso........oh never mind! Hanz is a bit more shy than his brother, but is still rockin' a Han Solo torso. Well there ya go, my first entry into the MOC Olympics. I honestly didn't think I was going to make it in time. I had a last minute business trip to Germany the day before we got the categories. Then I saw the categories while I was in Germany, and decided I would rather work than try and figure out what to do. Then I came back just in time for my family to come out for a visit to celebrate my daughters' 5th birthday (good times), followed/paralleled by some damn cold I brought back from Germany. I was thankful I had all night to put something together yesterday when my wife said "Don't forget we have the business dinner to attend tonight." Shit. All came out well in the end though. After sacrificing 3 Christians, a bottle of Sailor Jerry's rum, a few pints of Smithwick's, and a nice healthy dram of Oban 14 I was good to go. A couple more Christians probably would have netted me better lighting for my pics.....but beggars can't be choosers. Inspiration was last minute, but I definitely studied Stacy Sterling's ice castles for a general idea. She's much more talented at making them look more detailed than me though. My general idea was to make a sculpture in progress with ice being flun by the chainsaws. I believe I achieved my objective for this round. See you in the next.
