Olympia: Episode One . A master of darkness...a team of justice seekers...a city in fear...Welcome to Olympia... . Mr. Parker Pyne is an enigma to most: is he a private detective in the same league as Sherlock Holmes? Is he a treasure-seeker like the famed Johnny Thunder? Or is he simply a man with a higher-than average intellect? The truth is, Mr. Parker Pyne does not fit the established mold of any of these characteristics. Born and raised in Oceania, Parker Pyne joined the Officer Corps before the outbreak of the Great War. Acting as a battalion commander during the war, he distinguished himself admirably in Olympia's defense and was honorably discharged after the war. Settling down in his simple, yet elegant flat in Upper Olympia, Mr. Parker Pyne solves crimes, mysteries, and puzzles too great for the overworked, incompetent, and corrupt Authorities. Despite his vast wealth from solving crimes and puzzling occurrences, Mr. Pyne has only one servant: Poirot. Well-disciplined, extremely vain, and a jack-of-all trades, the diminutive Poirot serves as Pyne's butler, chef, secretary, chauffeur, and barber, all without a twitch of his little mustache. Not much of Poirot's past is known; he only speaks the dead-language French and he refuses to talk about his former life. However, his unquestioning devotion to Mr. Pyne has led some to suspect the detective once saved his life. From the case notes of Mr. Parker Pyne: As I sit here writing these notes, I cannot but feel the despair hanging over my city. I feel so helpless in the wake of this evil to which I had been blind to as of late. It is true that my deductive skills were being put to much more use as the wave of troubles spread. I often wondered about the increase in crime, the prevalence of poverty, and the government's insistence on allowing terror weapons to float over Olympia, but I could not find a connection between any of them. Indeed, if it hadn't been for the murder of the famed inventor Nikola Tesla, I would never have been drawn into this conspiracy of masterful proportions. I will never forget the night that changed my life: it was late and I was in my favorite pub when the inventor himself unexpectedly sat down next to me. Before I could show my surprise at his appearance, he told me he had heard of me, of my integrity and unique set of skills. He then hurriedly pressed a key into my hand and made me swear that if anything should happen to him, I would go to his private warehouse, gain access to it, and destroy the machine within. I was taken aback by this strange request, and asked Tesla who he was afraid of; “Oblivion”, he whispered. And as quickly as he appeared, he left. The next day, Nikola Tesla was found dead, shot in his laboratory. When I heard the news, I immediately rang up Poirot to bring my car around and we set off at high speed for Tesla's warehouse in the wooded Fromton region. But I was not prepared for what I found... It was empty! The facility’s roof had a large hole in it, as if something of incalculable power had blasted it open and carefully removed the object within. Who could have done this? Thoughts raced through my head...the crime wave...Tesla's secret project...the new Floating Fortresses...and the Ministry of Justice then-being constructed...I suddenly realized they were all connected. But how? My course of action is clear: I must follow this web of evil and stop it at all costs. I fear Tesla was not the first victim; indeed, this conspiracy may have been in place far before Tesla's untimely demise. But I cannot rely on The Authorities for help; too many have been corrupted. No, I must form my own team...a team of incorruptible specialists in various fields to save my city...and I know just who I shall contact first... To be continued...
