MIT R3 Zac . vs Bob the Almighty . Quoth the Raven - Build a scene or story based on the work of the American writer Edgar Allan Poe. . MIT 2011 Bob the Almighty My category was to build a story or scene from a book by Edgar Allen Poe. I was actually quite excited at this because one of my favourite old authors, Next to John Steinbeck and Arthur Conan-Doyle,was Poe And so I decided to turn into Lego, my favourite story,Which is: Murders of the Rue morgue* *Please note there might be some inaccuracies and left out parts. This is because I don't have the part to make it or I felt they were not needed to for the plot. I first meet Dupin in a small library Montmartre,we were looking for the same book. But we were both very talkative and after a little chatting we had become firm friends. After a while we became room mates. I had to rent the house because his family had lost most of its money. We would spend great lengths talking and reading. Then one day, I was reading a truly fascinating article in the morning paper about a almost unsolvable case. This really piqued his interest as we had a truly amazing and logical mind who would never let, even a simple, problem drop. The article was describing who a mother and daughter had been brutally killed. The crime scene was a top floor apartment, One,the mother had had here throat cut with some kind of sharp implement, most probably a cut throat razor. But it had been so badly cut the head was almost severed! The other poor woman was violently shoved up a chimney after being strangled and some hair pulled out. The police were astounded that the murderer did not even think to steal the large amount of francs that lay in a chest on the floor,so coming to the conclusion this was not a robbery. Only one entrance showed signs of an entry. But the police do not believe this to be the entrance of the murderer. Mainly because it is inaccessible because it is on the top floor of a unclimbable ,by a human that is,wall. And all other entrances, windows, And doors where locked from the inside. There are quite a few witnesses. First is A French silversmith called Henri who thinks the murderer was Italian And next is Rupert Odenheim a Dutch Restaurateur who is not sure but thinks the murderer was speaking French Then came William Bird a English tailor who thinks the murderer was speaking German. Then there is he Spanish undertaker called Alfonzo Garcio,He is pretty sure that the murderer was speaking English. And finally there is Alberto Montaini,he is a confectioner and thinks he could here the murderer speaking Russain but like all the others he does not speak the language so does not know what was said. As can be expected I was totally confused by this array of totally bizarre facts. But my dear friend Dupin was just as curious so he suddenly lept out of his chair and went to the chair calling" I'm going to Rue Morgue are you coming?" Now I had no choice,I ran out the door after him calling him to "wait up" As we went to the scene of the crime we noticed just how impossible it was to have gotten in a window on the top floor. Now the police had agreed to let us look around the crime scene as long as we had a officer with us,and he met us by the door. And then led us in. The murders were really brutal and I found it quite sickly! I than decided that I'd rather gather more information from the policeman the gruesome scene around me. However Dupin was lapping up every detail he could find! Once back at home,I was extremely surprised to find we would be having a guest and he had solved the case. Astounded I asked who and how. He replied" the killings were clearly done by some one who could climb a steep wall with no holds, some one with super human strength, this is shown by the strength of the forced needed to push a women us a small narrow chimney. Also none of the witnesses could say which language the killer was speaking,so it must have been a animal calls. So it can only lead to one fact! It was not a human who did this but a orang-outang. And I will prove this because I posted a ad in the newspaper saying I had found a orang-outang. If I am right a sailor will walk through that door!" And to my amazement in walked a sailor! The sailor then said in a gruff but no threatening "Hello gentlemen.I hear you have found a orang-outang.I will be offering a large cash reward if you have." Dupin replied "Well I have to tell you, sorry but I tricked you.I have not found the orang-outang.But I would like to know what happened at Rue Morgue" The sailor the exclaimed "How did you know? All right but I want you to know I am innocent!" before going on to tell us: "When I went home one day I had found that my orang-outang had broken free and was trying to copy me,trying to copy me shaving. He then terrified I might hurt him he fled... He climbed the nearest building and entered via the window. The daughter then fainted with shock while, While the orang-outang tried to shave the mother, but ending up butchering her, The blood then drove him into a rage that led him to strangle and pull the hear out of the daughter. Then seeing me he panicked about what he had done and tried to hide her by shoving her up a chimney! He then left, Climbed onto the roof, And fled. I then gave up the chase and ran away from the murders" Than my friend with all his logical way turned to me a smugly said " that my dear friend is how you solve a unsolvable murder or two." The end ________________________________________________________________________________________ The set. Did you know that Arthur Conan-Doyle was greatly influenced by this story and modeled Sherlock on Dupin Also all crime books were started by this one story Thanks for watching and please leave a comment!
