Nazgūl . . The Nazgūl were they, the Ringwraiths, the Ślairi, the Enemy's most terrible servants; darkness went with them, and they cried with the voices of death. Their steeds were winged creatures: if birds, then greater than all other birds, and were naked, and neither quill nor feather did they bear, and their vast pinions were as webs of hide between horned fingers; and they stank. Creature of an older world maybe. Vultures upon the weak.... -"Silmarillion"/"Return of the King" Hey all, After my respective failure with the dragon Smaug, I decided to try my hand at another dragon by joining Sean's contest. Indeed, my axe is rather dull when it comes to dragons, so I hoped to hone my axe a little bit through this contest. I have no expectations of placing but I wanted to show some support for my good friends Sean and Steph. I lacked inspiration for this contest when suddenly I remembered my Lord of the Rings connections, and this idea was formed. This is, without a doubt, the best creature I have built in LEGO form (my warg comes in at a close second). Those who know my clumsy hand with creatures can testify that this is one of my better ones. I managed to whip this up in about 2 days, either through my efficiency or through sheer determination, I know not. But I managed to finish it. I spent a good portion of my time on the head alone. Even now, I am not 100% happy with it. Still, it captures the essence of the fell beast and is instantly recognizable. Same with the neck. While it isn't quite as smooth as I hoped it would be, it is flexible and really simple to make. The legs are my favorite part of this creature. I love their muscular thickness. Makes me think the dragon was a soccer player back in the day.... I got rather lucky with how I designed the body, so that it will actually remain on 2 feet without having to tip forward or backward. Very proud of that. The wings fulfill their purpose but I didn't get quite the effect I was hoping to capture. It turns out, I have less black capes than I remember. However, I made do with what I have. I was mainly worried about the shaping and texture of the wings than I was with the look of them. I was hoping for the "leathery" sort of feel for them. Otherwise, this is a really solid creation in my opinion. Thoughts? I haven't been able to devote as much time to building as I would've liked. While my time with LEGO in general has increased significantly in other abstract ways, my bricks remain in a cluttered heap that needs to be cleaned up here. Hopefully, after some deadlines are done, I'll be able to spend some more time with building! I am very proud of the creation as you can tell. But please, I really appreciate any feedback you can give me. Grace and Peace, -Blake And as always, SOLI DEO GLORIA! EDIT: Brickshelf gallery now available EDIT: This creation achieved 3rd place in the contest!
