Waikiki Wonders . . For 2012 MocAthalon Team Common Elements in Tropical Paradise Okay, so I lived in Hawaii for seven years... therefore I can tell you that every character found in this MOC can absolutely be found somewhere among the beaches. (Well except for one maybe.) This actual scene however is my jam-packed presentation of that experience placed in front of my interpretation one of Waikiki's famous hotels. Full disclosure: There are currently no local campers living on Waikiki beach, but they can be found on others. So I guess this MOC is also a social statement about the plight of the Hawaiians. If you've been there or lived there, you know what I mean. Blue tarp camp flying the Hawaiian flag, newly arrived pale tourists at center, beach fisherman with lines full out and a fire ready to cook the catch. Detail of the ubiquitous ABC store. Lanai (deck) walk characters found along the beach, including some "entrepreneurs" and a guy who had too much of something, resting against the famous rainbow tower. Detail of blue tarp camp and its inhabitants hooking up for some afternoon relaxation. Parrot guy up on the lanai in back entertaining tourists. Full view of the lanai walk and all its characters. Island resourcefulness at its best! Repurposing parts, including local bus stop signage. Tourists working on a slow burn while the kids perfect their sandcastle skills. Don't forget the whale watcher in the upper balcony with her binoculars. Or is she a stalker girlfriend who followed her ex to the island? Hmmm....
