AEGAKS-607 MCR a.k.a. Warlock . The 607 MCR was originally intended to be a racing mech. However after several test runs it became abundantly clear that the only races the 607 would take home the gold in would be a demolition derby! Fortunately there is always a market for units that can smash and blast with the best of them. After several modifications, a whole new breed of AEGAKS was born, the ďMedium Combat Racer.Ē . What makes this AEGAKS unique is that nearly all of the energy coming from its ejectable power-cell has been dedicated to the 607ís movement and control systems maximizing its speed and maneuverability. With that said, the 607 can still only muster a cruising speed of 85 mph and a redline-petal to the metal 135 mph. These speeds are respectable, if not blistering, for a mech of its 55 ton stature. In order to target all of its weaponry effectively, a completely new head had to be created. Using state of the art camera lens arrays, the 607 sees its surroundings, and opponents the way a person sees. In a sense the entire AEGAKS becomes attuned the pilotís body, allowing for natural movements and greatly reducing reaction time. Long and short ranged communications systems have also been built into head so the pilot can hear and even speak through the head like it was his own. What it does possess is exceptional stability. Thanks to its tri-wheeled foot with additional support struts the design can easily traverse rough terrain while either walking or driving. Or if the pilot desires, the 607 can frivolously stomp on a droneís head without having to worry about shattering the ankle joints. An interesting feature of the 607 is that it only uses conventional ballistic weaponry. Even though weight and space must be allocated to the ammo, the power required to operate these weapons barely drains the power cell. In fact, so long as the 607 doesnít suffer serious damage and maintains its ammo reserves, it can stay in the field for a week at a time before needing to replace the power cell. The right arm wields the Harbinger-302M short-barrel auto cannon. Its clip holds sixty 50 mm shells tipped with armor piercing warheads for medium ranged targets. The 607ís primary weapon is the Maelstrom-RFAC (Rapid Firing Auto-Cannon). Carried by the left arm, the four rotating barrels can precisely fire from one to four 90 mm shells per second at a maximum range 3,000 yards. Itís belt fed by an ammo box holding 6,000 rounds. At full auto, the cannonís ammo would be utterly depleted after twenty-five minutes of continuous firing. Now thatís a bullet-storm in anybodyís dictionary provided the gun didnít blow up first! Another benefit of its ballistic weapons is that the 607ís overall heat signature is much lower than what energy weapons produce so far fewer heat sinks are necessary than in other mechs its own size. Should the ammo run out or the guns more likely be damaged in battle, both the guns and ammo box can be ejected allowing the 607 to rely on its secondary weapon systems. Hmmm, maybe puting the primary power cell right next to the main ammo bin wasn't the best choice, but I bet it would loads of fantastic fireworks of the lethal variety! Despite all of this firepower though, this AEKAGS true gift lies in melee combat. The armor plating uses a woven honeycombed patter revolutionized by the Dura-Lexx Corporation which cuts the weight nearly in half while maintaining the defensive protection found in much heavier plates. It has been armed with two uniquely powerful thermo-sabers allowing it to slice up drones or other mechs literally like a hot knife through butter! "That's not a knife, this is a knife!" In fact these are the only actual energy weapons utilized by the 607. Although they use a moderate amount of energy their overall consumption rate doesnít seriously impede on the 607ís time on the battlefield. If all fails, the hands and feet are tipped with tempered claws and serrated wheel spikes that can penetrate armor but are primarily intended for climbing steep vertical slopes. Built into each forearm are a rocket propelled grenade launcher with 20 rounds and two 30 caliber machine guns with 500 rounds allocated per gun. As an added safety precaution, should any of the ammo bins get penetrated by enemy fire, the armor plating has been angled to direct the explosion away from the cockpit at the cost of the lower arm actuator. Here we see a close-up of the power-cell with electro-magnetic clamps engaged. While here they have been disengaged so the cell can be ejected and replaced. As is customary in all AEGAKS, the pilot block can detach itself and eject the head. Unlike other blocks though, this one has a set of fold out wings and a pair of small thrusters on the underside. In just under 3.25 seconds the block transforms into a mini-jet. It can safely fly the pilot up to 500 miles away at a speed of 350 mph. Now some extra eye-candy shots of our toys for warmongering tots! Although the standard color scheme would be battleship grey or urban camouflage, our pilot has opted for something more to his liking. There are three separate shades of green with a healthy dose of black for contrast topped with a smattering of both light and dark grey for highlights. When moving at full speed while firing its guns so swinging its blades, the blur it creates would leave one thinking an evil spell is being conjured to slay its enemies. So it has been dubbed the Warlock by its spectators. BUILDERíS NOTES: Well, hereís my first full-fledged mech for the year. It incorporates a few ideas I have used in the past plus some new ones. The ammo belt was something I never tried before but I think it works pretty well here. There is one thing I admit I would change. The knee and elbow joints are not strong enough to support the weight as I would like. The technic click joints could do the job but a whole new arm and leg design would have to be created to incorporate them effectively. Perhaps such a design will make an appearance on a version 2.0 or a completely new model. Naturally I must pay my respect and naturally give credit to our very own Rabid Goldfish a.k.a. RGF for creating this line. By keeping the story alive for the rest of us to enjoy, the rest of us can build upon it time and time again. Thanks again my friend and may this humble build be a worthy part of the AEGAKS realm.
