Operation: Steam Knights (OSK120526)- Ghouladrix: Medieval Bone Mecha Knight (LDD) . Bone Mecha 2 . Name: Ghouladrix Species: Zombie Warrior History: Ghouladrix is the generic name given to a creation of Mortillus, the Necromancer, to a race of reanimated skeletal knights who retain a fragment of their original soul. Capable of independent thought and even strategy, they are much more adept and cunning than Mortullus's usual crop of walking un-dead. To ensure these creatures obey his commands, at least as long as he needs them to, they are immediately bonded to a mystical armour fashioned from the bones of humans and animals fused with magical metal. The armour binds them to Mortillus's power, granting them life only while he wills it. Thus ensuring their loyalty. Though some variation on the Ghouladrix armour exists [see below] the most familiar form is that of a tall black armour clad in bleached bones. I normally has weapons replacing its hands, [in the example above a sword and pitchfork]. Powers and Weaknesses: Ghouladrix do not share the lifeforce draining powers of other Bone Army units, since they retain enough of their original lifeforce to remain animated. To avoid them becoming a threat to Mortillus, they are not equipped with any casting magic or spell shields, making them vulnerable to mage attacks. Their lack of a "hand" means using tools and hand to hand combat are impossible. Though they are immediately ready for single combat. The pilot can be removed, but since the armour is created to bind the ghoul to Mortillus, removing the pilot inevitably leads to the resurrection spell being broken and the ghoul dying. The armour can however be recycled for another Ghouladrix. Comments you may note that I've added some extra pictures since I wrote the description. Now the figure has hands (actually they are very similar to the hands used in the chibi version) and I've given him a morningstar (ball and chain) style weapon. I have a few issues with LDD regarding this design. There are just too many joints for it to be able to recalculate how to move the chains or to position (some) of the limbs. My fault really I should have assembled and posed the pieces separately and joined them later on. The positioning of the spikes, particularly on the legs, is impeding posing options. If there is a version 3 of this concept I may redesign the joints. I think the time has come to show a few comparison shots with previous medieval universe themed creations, as scale is definitely an issue here. He's significantly taller than some and I'm not sure how that works out.
