Aliens bookends . "They're coming outta the walls.. They're coming outta the goddamn walls! Let's book!" . This was my entry for my local Melbourne LUG's competition for June, which I'm pleased to say that I won-by one vote! The theme was "Bookends, design your own, any size, any theme!" and sine Prometheus was opening on June 7 I thought what a good time to get into the spirit (little did I know, HOW MUCH the movie would SUCK..) but I digress. My first idea was to have one side the Space Jockey and the other Giger's Alien, to bridge the prequel to the original movies. The Space Jockey was too big to build in 3D so I tried for a frieze style of low relief sculpture. Unfortunately after trialling it, it looked too wide and I gave up on that section and settled for two alien heads, one open and one closed. The heads were the easy bit-it might sound silly but I practically used up all my dark bley to get the walls high enough and anchouring the heads to the walls gave me a few headaches. Check out the other entries; I really love the rollercoaster one:
