Tenum and Kahu [Bio-Cup 2012 Round One, vs Rennoc~] . Perhaps his powers are a bit out of place, and perhaps his ride is a bit old fashioned, but Tenum is still a powerful guardian of the Northern Continent. . Name: Tenum (TEN-um) Gender: Male Race/Species: Le-Matoran (G1) Occupation: Archon, Toa Guardian Title(s): Toa Prevailing Element: Air, Aluminium [Stone] Alignment: Chaotic Good Affiliation: Korrothis, Matoran of Northern Continent Typical Tool(s): Mask of Speed, Parawings, The Kahu Status: Died during Destiny War MOC Status: Disassembled Contest: The 2012 Bio-Cup Round: One Opponent: Rennoc~ Opponent's Entry: Ignis and Bestian Theme: #21, Toa or Hero with Vehicle or Mount Tenum was originally a Le-matoran who lived and worked in Le-Metru as a Bike-Racer, but he was also employed as a pilot in the city's military. During a fateful dogfight, Tenum was shot down and crashed in the Sea of Protodermis as the Great Spirit watched on. Something in the depths transformed him... He washed up weeks later on the northern shore of the Northern Continent. His Air powers had kicked in unconsciously to prevent him from drowning. He first attempted to return to Metru Nui, but after discovering the foul deeds of an evil warlord and his armies, he realised his Destiny was to be on the Northern Continent. After a year, the war was won. With Tarthex defeated, Tenum and his team were invited to Korrothis for special congratulations from the Elemental Lords. During the celebrations, Lord Melestrakk, the then Airlord of Korrothis, took Tenum aside and offered him a place as one of his six Archons. Sensing Destiny pulling again, Tenum agreed. Lord Reglas, the Earthlord, later wished for Tenum's help with an experiment with the powerful Soulforge. The aim was to grant him powers over nitrogen, refining his Air powers into something more chemical and precise. Unfortunately, Reglas made an error and Tenum was granted powers over Aluminium instead. Aluminium! It wasn't anything to DO with Air! Maelestrakk could no longer call him an Archon of Air, and Lord Garus already had six Archons of his own. Sorrowfully, he returned to the Northern Continent and rejoined his team. (Obligatory height comparison shot with Inika build and Toa Pohatu) -------- I am sorry to interrupt your deep-think, Le-Nui, but I know I can be an archon again! If I just... The Weave is solid on this, Tenum. An Archon of Le-Korrothis cannot harbour powers of a different Arc. However... that does not mean I cannot help you. Perhaps... GRINGAT! I have a bone to pick with you! I think you've wrong-turned, "brother"! Have at you! I'm not frightened of a tiny, element-confused pip like you! That matters little! *Biff!* Now you've made me angry! Wait... what are you - what's that? Oho? Slow-think Varrix will find out soon enough, methinks! Hrngh! *Clang!* ----- Enter The Kahu, created by Lord Gringat for Tenum - a slightly curious vehicle with the capacity to channel the powers of Tenum's mask of speed. It was designed with Metru Nui in mind, making it far more special to Tenum. It handled in a similar way to the plane he used to fly as a matoran, although with better handling, higher speed and a lot more strength in its chronodermis-fuelled engine. Curiously, the bike doesn't use jets as most do, but instead pulls itself through the air with whirlwinds of elemental Air energy. The main weapons are two long-range kanoka disk launchers. Gringat insisted on these, as kanoka powers are so variable and useful, as well as allowing a toa to disable enemies without hurting them in many cases, so keeping to The Code. A gun on the vehicle's belly and two spearguns are also installed. What's more, each wing is in fact two wings, and the front ones can move to direct air over the craft to maneuvre in different ways. The tail moves as well. Thanks to his elemental powers over aluminium, Tenum can command many of the mechanical functions of The Kahu with his thoughts, even remotely. Unfortunately, as his Air powers are lost, he cannot control the vehicle's movement in quite the same way as Gringat had intended. The cockpit offers a comfortable sitting position, with the motion of the wings controlled by foot pedals, kanoka launchers controlled by rotating wooden handles, and a plethora of other wheels and buttons. Tenum was warned to NEVER press the big red one. The underbelly of The Kahu features a gun that fires streams of aluminium pellets, and a powerful floodlight that can extend during night flights. ---- Despite losing his title as Archon of Le-Korrothis, Tenum returned to the Northern Continent with determination in his step. By now, his team had become dispersed as protectors of various settlements across the entire continent. They were very surprised to see him, but soon he settled in with them again. With The Kahu he could fly between the other cities, becoming an over-guardian for an entire continent. When Teridax took over the Matoran Universe, Korrothis blew a hole in his side and flew out using engines similar to The Kahu's, albeit colossal. Without the Council to sustain The Weave, the elements of the Matoran Universe fluctuated and went haywire, forcing Teridax to attempt to stabilise them himself, greatly weakening him. Tenum followed them. Hordes of rahkshi, shadow matoran and flying rahi followed Korrothis out of the Matoran Universe, and Tenum, along with many other archons and flying toa, fought them in the skies. Disaster struck when a rahkshi of weather control pulled The Kahu into a cyclone. It landed in the seas of Aqua Magna, but Tenum was not so lucky. His parawings broken by a bolt of acid, he was grabbed out of freefall by a squadron of shadow matoran and killed by a lethal barrage of shadow bolts. After the Destiny War, Tenum's team-mates gave The Kahu back to Korrothis, where Gringat repaired it and donated it to the Great Archive under the city of Drachen's Hope along with his mask. There lie a great many artefacts of the Destiny War, and a shrine of memorial to the brave toa that died in it. ----- -{The Fourth Wall of Text}- A Toa of Aluminium has been a long-standing concept for me. I wanted him to be all wartimey, since aeroplanes are typically made of the stuff. Chose the Kakama as his mask because it looks like it has a large mustache, like many iconic pilots of the RAF during WWI and WWII. I also tried to make his chest look a bit like a pilot's jacket. Funnily, I had never planned to actually give him a plane to fly. The Kahu is very obviously based off a fighter plane, but retains some aspects from the Phantoka vehicles too. Main plane-like details are the wings and tail, propeller, ironsight, and the way Tenum sits in the cockpit. What's more, it's the first of Gringat's inventions I've built in over three years. :) The parawings idea comes from The Edge Chronicles. Sky Pirates would open them out and fly around, and I always loved that. Tenum's name was thought up by Toa Krikitt. He's not a MOCpager, but a Champions Online player. Tenum and The Kahu borrow no designs from other builders bar Kai Heffernan's ingenius pelvis design. Tenum's torso, hands and head are custom designs I use a lot, and as a treat for you guys, I added an LDD file with those designs in it for you to dissect for yourself! Be warned LDD won't let you attatch a pelvis because it doesn't account for the fact that HF limbs can move a little in extra ways, but as you can see it works in real life. :) Used a lot of very, very old pieces in The Kahu; technic pins and bushes and gears that LegoŽ hasn't moulded in years, and are probably older than I am. Helps fit the historical feel of the MOC a bit more, I though, and makes The Kahu look a bit more old fashioned. Had to create a new studio to fit The Kahu, since the one I normally use isn't very deep and is usually for bipeds. Is black because Tenum is white. I got the e-mail from MOCpages central telling me my opponent, Rennoc~ posted his entry while I was writing the comic strip. I have tried really hard not to look at it before finishing this page! >.< I wish him luck. And I wish everyone else luck, too. :)
