HMMVW Series . The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), better known as the Humvee, is a military 4WD motor vehicle created by AM General . The HMMVW has largely supplanted the roles formerly served by smaller Jeeps such as the M151 MUTT, the M561 "Gama Goat", their M718A1 and M792 ambulance versions, the CUCV, and other light trucks. Primarily used by the United States Armed Forces, it is also used by numerous other countries and organizations and even in civilian adaptations. The Hummer series was also inspired by the HMMWVs. All of these are mods of L4L's HMMVW chassis with minor modifications. This variant is the M1036 TOW Armored W/W. It replaces the standard M2 HB .50cal machine gun with a single 152mm BGM-171 TOW missile system launch tube. It is optically sighted and wire-guided. The TOW missile provides the HMMVW and any convoy it is traveling in with a greater capacity of firepower. The TOW has AT capabilities and can penetrate more then 630mm of armor plating at ranges up to 3,750 m. This is the AN/TWQ-1 Avenger SAM. It is a missile system which provides mobile, short-range air defense protection for ground units against cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, low-flying fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters. The Avenger carries 8 FIM-92 Stinger missiles or 2 FGM-148 Javelin missiles. Originally developed as a private venture by Boeing in the 1980s, the Avenger was developed over a period of only 10 months from initial concept to delivery for testing to the US Army. Currently a laser variant of the Avenger is in development by Boeing. It will mount an inferred laser system with power levels somewhere in the tens of kilowatts range. The M1046 Raytheon Missile Platform is a proposed variant of the HMMVW. It will be designed to mount four Patriot surface-to-air missiles on a highly mobile platform, similar to the Avenger. However, the M1046 will have greater anti-jet capabilities then the Avenger as the PAtriot missiles it is armed with can fly farther and faster then the Stinger missiles of the Avenger.
