2012 Bio-Cup round 2, Marko Petrusic vs Overlord Galaxus: Zurentis . For the Bio-Cup round 2, Insect Rahi . First off, the required links: My opponent His entry Link to the 2012 Bio-Cup 3 - Overlord Galaxus Vs Marko Petrusic - Insect Rahi: a bionicle insect creation. NOTE: PLEASE read the bio and the 4th wall in order to understand the color placement on the MOC, as well as some other things. Thank you. Bio: The Zurentis are four legged insect-like Rahi that can be found in the forests of Bara Magna. They are usually calm beings and wonít attack unless they are provoked or a threat to their hatchlings occurs. An adult Zurentis has two pairs of wings, a stinger where the eggs are kept safe from the predators, an acid sac stored underneath the mouth and thick shining armor. When hatched, a baby Zurentis shares no resemblance to an adult. During the first few weeks, a thin layer of armor starts to form and the colors begin to resemble the adult. At that time, they are most vulnerable because they become too heavy for the mother to carry them on her tail. Therefore, the evolution has gifted them with the greatest defense method, camouflage. When in danger, they just lay on the ground and act dead. From a birdís point of view, they cannot be told apart from the surrounding grass and dirt. Later, the armor thickens and gets a metallic shine. Due to the armor being too hard by the time the Zurentis doesnít need the camouflage, the colors remain the same. The only way the female Zurentis can be told apart from the male is by the hatchlings on her tail, which clearly stand out. Some Matoran have been known to tame a Zurentis, but just by pure luck. Zurentis can be tamed only when young, and the only way to find a young Zurentis is if their mother is killed by a larger Rahi. The Matoran that tried to kill the mother themselves ended up facing itís sting and the acid which an adult Zurentis spits at the enemy when provoked. Due to the Zurentis having four eyes, the only blind spot is the middle of the back. That is also the place where the chemical produced in its abdomen is exposed to sunlight and becomes a corrosive substance. If a Matoran manages to cut off the translucent tube that contains the chemical, it will render the Zurentis helpless and disable itís flight ability, for it would rather die than risk hurting its babies by swinging the tail at the enemy. Zurentis are also extremely fast, either in air or on the land. Please do not attempt to kill or tame a Zurentis without help of a skilled tamer. Well, thatís a big bio. If you havenít gotten tired of this post, here is the MOC: Front view Side view Back view, the stinger can be seen here. The other side Head closeup The acid spitter, yes, itís a flick-fire missile :D To fire it, just pull up the single tooth :) Wings folded Wings stretched The back, the tube with the chemical can be seen here :) Tail/stinger closeup, you can see the way I fitted the leeches to look like Zurantisí babies A view of the side, nice part usage, donít you think? The underside of the torso, Iím quite proud of it. Front leg. Back leg. With itís babies. ďSqueek!(Mommy!)Ē ďZRIWWW!(Back off!) Ē Action-ish pose Alright, time for the: 4th wall Judges, please read this too, thank you. This was certainly an interesting build, for me at least. Especially when I saw the theme and my opponent. The first idea I got for this was the wings, and I worked from that. This entry was also done in two days, so I guess you could call it a speed build. I wouldíve posted this earlier, but I had to pack for vacation and I only managed to take the pictures when I was home. Okay, thatís enough about me, this is supposed to be for the MOC. The hardest part to do was the head, because I really wanted to incorporate a lot of playability and also make it look good. A lot of inspiration for this was taken from real bugs, but it all got mixed up into, well, this. I would like to explain the chosen colors as well as some parts of the MOC. I decided to go with metallic green I used on Solarus for the shield parts on the top, mainly because it reminded me of colors some bugs have. Same goes for the metallic brown. I decided to leave the bottom not armored because the real bugs donít have armor there either. The shield idea came from the beetles having their wings protected by their exoskeleton. I also decided to give the Zurentis some plain non-metallic colors to represent soft tissue. There are also some interesting part usages and illegal connections here. I also need to say that the MOC isnít exactly photogenic and that it looks better IRL, honestly :) Well, thatís enough. Good luck to my opponent, and to all participants of the Bio-Cup that made it to this round. And if you are getting bored of all this reading, go and write a comment :D Also, thanks to 12LegoGreendude for posting the main pic for me :) To end, hereís a pic of it flying :) Ďtill next time, Stay cool like a swimming pool.
