MXSC-R2-Hideout-The Robin's Nest . After enduring months of whining and pouting from the Boy Wonder, the Caped Crusader 'caves' in and gives the lad his own private section in the Batcave, dubbed 'The Robin's Nest'... . Built for Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest Round 2: Category 2.1 Hideout Come up with a hideout for a superhero, who doesn’t have one but should have one. Do not use existing ones (like the Batcave or the Fortress of Solitude for example), build something new, like a hidden laboratory in an abandoned warehouse for Spider-Man. No size restrictions. The Robin's Nest was meant to be a place where Robin could work on his new rig, The Tankard (a 16th birthday gift from Mr. Fox), store some of his childhood belongings or just escape for some 'me' time... Batman: 'Robin? Now where did he get off to? I figured he'd have the Tankard half painted by now, the way he kept bitching about it being black. Why on Earth would anyone paint that thing red?' Batman: 'Hmmm, maybe he's in here. I swear, if he worked as hard at catching criminals as he does at sleepping, we'd be retired by now!' Batman: 'Robin? Baffling bell-towers, Boy Wonder!!! WTF?!?! Robin: 'Uh, it's not the way it looks...?' Moral of the story? ALWAYS knock before entering a teenagers room, even if he's a Superhero. Additional images: The Robin's Nest. The Tankard's platform rotates for easy turn around. A close-up of the Batbed. Every child should have one. Some close-ups of the Tankard. I wanted it to look like a vehicle that might have been developed by the same group that worked on the Tumbler. Compact, fast and all-terrain, the Tankard is a single-seat vehicle with the same river-jumping capabilities of the Tumbler. Since it's main operation was non-combat related, the Tankard's open cockpit design leaves the driver vulnerable to open attack, so until Mr.Fox develops some shielding, the Tankard is relegated to reconnaissance and back-up for the Tumbler, though this rarely deters the Boy Wonder... you can clearly see. Fourth Dimension Commentary: Whew! Nothing like waiting until the last minute! Unfortunately, family and other circumstances kept me from my bricks for a while, so it was a mad dash to finish this up! As of 8am, PST, Sunday the 29th, all I had done was Robin's messy room and 3/4 of the rock work around it; I still had the entire main chamber and vehicle to design, build, photograph and post. MANY cups of coffee later, here it is. I know that technically this is part of an existing hideout, though done for a hero that has none. Ultimately it may cost me, but I just couldn't get the idea out of my head, so I went with it; I hope you all find it worthy of the final round. Lastly, a big thanks to Mr. Xenomurphy, Tiler, Shifu, Kevin and the Fisherman for devoting their time to this fantastic contest. Also, congratulations to my Fantastic Four fellows on some fabulous entries and a very competitive finals. You are all three very talented and deserving of your spots, despite the unfounded grumblings of certain non-competitors... Excelsior!~H
