BSE Dagger-class Black Sun Star Destroyer . The Black Sun Empire's biggest, deadliest ship yet... . Yo,
Well here it is. Finally. This is a model I've been wanting to make for a very long time; but I've never felt like I had enough parts to do so. Turns out it didn't take any more than my last few big ships.
I've wanted to make some sort of 'star destroyer type thing' for ages and finally have. Inspiration comes from (of course) the star wars imperial star destroyer, as well as Steef de Prouw's 'Judicator' which I remembered seeing a couple of years back (check it out, it's on MOCpages and well worth a visit). As much as I love Steef's ship, I didn't want to copy it, I liked the idea of the flat top half, but besides that, I tried not to copy it too much - in fact I didn't even look at it again until after I had finished building my ship. There's also a hint of Darth Mal's Sith Infiltrator in my design, but that's more coincidence than inspiration - it just turned out looking that way.
So, what is it exactly? It's the Black Sun Empire's equivalent to the Victory-class Star Destroyers, which as you'll know if you're a star wars fan, though very similar in design, are actually much smaller than the big Imperial-class star destroyers. I'm choosing the Victory-class as an equivalent to this one so I've still got a slot to build a bigger, better one to rival the Imperial-class one day :P
I loved the idea of the mostly flat top half, though the underside slopes into increasingly deep sections - all the blocky right angles on the sides, where each 'section' gets bigger are inetnional as well - it's not supposed to be triangular, like proper star destroyers. Before I get carried away I'll just do what everybody wants and give a little description as we tour the ship...
Here it comes, approaching with a deadly stance. I didn't build an interior for this one, as this time the scale is just completely way off, much more than usual. Also because it has (minimal) lights inside.
From the front, check out all the guns!
On the first increase in width in the shape each side is equipped with a couple of big-ass powerful cannons - the power is balanced against the fact that they're only much use when the ship is facing directly at its target however. Good for pulverising slow enemy capital ships.
From the side - here you can see the whole flat top and incremented sloping underside thing.
Top view - shows the incremental increase in width every so often.
Six huge engines power this beast. It's still slow though - I mean come on it's a massive weight to shove around...
Another cool rear shot.
Close-up of the engines, with the slight upwards curve at the bottom and evil-looking fins on top.
Side of the back, somewhat rounded in the middle to meet up with the bridge.
Lights! yeah, it's not much... most of the inside is just a strong framework to hold it all together. I fit these in just for the sake of it. Both circles light up, as well as the bridge... That's it.
In an attempt to make this ship look really big, here is a slow pan of it. Imagine it slowly droning by while you watch.
Underside has some searchlights. In the top left corner of the photo you can see a pair of swiveling guns, which are on the other side of the ship as well. As most of the guns are on the top of the ship, these serve as 'better than nothing' alternatives to shoot attackers on the side or underneath whilst the ship is maneuvering to aim the rest of the guns on them.
Cool top-shot, used for the main picture.
It's coming straight at us!
GUNS!!! look at all those GUNS!!!
The bridge, in all its lit-up glory. Meaning a 1x6 plate's worth of smoked trans-grey.
Hopefully this looks as deadly as the shot intended it to.
Another view of the underside.
The lights on the other side. Well... there's not a lot that lights up, so we may as well look at every bit that does!
Bridge, from the side.
I like how this rear shot turned out...
And to finish, one more of the engines, before it enters hyperspace.
