Desert Pilgrimage . Pilgrim Caravan traveling under the protection of the Knights Templar. . My second Crusader/Templar related MOC for the day, this one shows a group of Pilgrims being escorted by a pair of Templar Knights. Protecting Pilgrims was the Templar Order's original calling, before they became involved in banking, financing, and everything else they were known for. As with real life pilgrims, the pilgrims in this MOC are a mix of people, and backgrounds. We have honest religious pilgrims, down-on-their-luck Men-at-Arms, and Merchants, all traveling together to travel under the protection of the Knights Templar. Their destination: the Holy City of Jerusalem. For true believers, it's the city where Jesus walked, preached, and was crucified. It's also a gateway to the riches of the East, and the trade that comes with it, and with the constant warfare, there's always opportunities for professional Soldiers in the region. ^---- I loved the idea for the "camel boxes" from the Prince of Persia sets, so I borrowed them for this MOC. I think it fits the look perfectly, especially since you don't know if it's food, spices, arms, or gold in those boxes! ^---- In this shot, you can see that the leading Templar Knight has turned his horse around and is waiting for the rest of the caravan to catch up. ^---- The Archer in this picture was originally supposed to be scanning the horizon for bandits, but the more I think about it, I guess he's probably just wiping the sweat from his eyes. Walking around in the desert is no fun, especially if you're wearing a heavy metal helmet and leather armor! ^---- A bandit's fate. These pilgrims are traveling down a well-traveled route, and the evidence of previous raids is apparent. Along with the wagon wheel, this skeleton (all that remains of an attacking bandit) is reason enough for the Templar Knights to be on alert. As always, thanks for looking, please check out my other MOCs, and don't forget to comment or rate this MOC!
