Redemption Chapter 3 (new, and better!) . Episode three! I'm not sure if I added the old one before, although I don't think I did. NEW CONTENT YAYZ. . Although Mira would never admit it, she had belly-flopped. She hit the water on her stomach after the forty foot drop, and doubled over in pain. There wasn’t much time to think about it though, as Dragonax dove into the water next to her and quickly pulled Mira beneath the surface.
The reservoir would’ve been peaceful if the situation hadn’t been so urgent. Shafts of sunlight illuminated the blue-green water, and small aquatic plants were sporadically growing on the walls. As the Toa and Makuta swam, ripples of light shimmered across their bodies. Mira’s thoughts were cut short by a sudden realization: she couldn’t breathe.
She grabbed Dragonax’ shoulder, and gestured desperately toward her mouth. In response, Dragonax grabbed her hand and, to Mira’s surprise, spoke: “You can breathe now.”
Mira’s gave him a look that was somewhere between “Are you crazy?!” and “Why are you holding my hand?!” She tried to last longer on the little air she had, but couldn’t. She looked at Dragonax, and took a short breath. To her surprise, instead of drowning she inhaled air. It felt different though, like breathing in a fog.
“How-” stammered Mira, “How is this even possible?”
Dragonax pointed to his face. “Mask of water breathing. I’m one of the only Makuta who can swim. As long as we’re in physical contact, I can share my mask power with you.” He nodded to where he was holding Mira’s hand.
There was a brief silence between the pair.
“What exactly are we doing?” asked Mira.
“YOU are escaping, I am defecting.”
“Do you want to go back?”
“No, of course not. I was asking you.”
Dragonax was silent for a long time. When he finally spoke, his voice was downcast:
“About a year ago, I was sent to kill a Toa. He was young, and it wasn’t hard to beat him. Before I... before I killed him, he said to me ‘Why did you betray the Great Spirit?’ I didn’t know what he meant, I always thought Mata Nui betrayed us. I asked the other Makuta, but they never told me anything. I didn’t believe them, but what could I do? I wanted to leave, to go somewhere far away from the senseless killing, but I couldn’t. Until now.”
Dragonax sighed. Mira looked at him, and was surprised that she actually felt sorrow for what would’ve been a mortal enemy.
“Ah, this is the one.” Dragonax spoke abruptly, as if he’d been eager to end the conversation. Dragonax led Mira to a large, grated pipe that protruded from the wall of the reservoir. He grabbed the grate in the middle, and tore it loose.
Dragonax swam into the pipe, and Mira followed.
“You know your way around here pretty well.” said Mira.
“I swim in this reservoir often. It helps me clear my mind. I also built half of it.”
“Do you- ACK!” Mira yelped, and let out a gagging cough. “What the heck was that?!”
“Um… you might not want to open your mouth in here very much.” Dragonax made a small orb of glowing energy in his hand, showing that the pipe was filled with floating algae and plants. Mira nodded and kept her mouth closed for the rest of the trip.
