AEGAKS-116-MWh "Peregrine" Version 2 . "Why did I build a flying AEGAKS, you say? Because I'm a genious. You should know that by now." Kenichi, when asked why he sank resources into the Peregrine's development. . The original Project AEGAKS that Kenichi had developed was meant to be six identical 102's and three identical 103's. When Ryu customized his 102, it opened a world of possibilities, and Kenichi jumped at the chance, after the initial shock that someone had actually altered his work of mechanical art. Each 102 prototype was modified to enhance their pilot's strengths, and to minimize their weaknesses. When Hikaru's turn came, it gave Kenichi a great deal of trouble. The jumpjets on Hikaru's Arkham were constantly needing maintenance as he used them far more than any of the other pilots. As a result, Kenichi stripped the armor from Hikaru's AEGAKS, and redesigned if from the ground up. Lighter armor, enhanced jumpjets, even replacing the right forearm and hand with a large multiform gun. In place of the typical back hardpoint for equipment, Kenichi mounted a unique engine system which supplies the necessary power for the Peregrine to remain in flight, however this does cut the AEGAKS' operational time from 12 hours to 2. The engine unit is mounted to a gimble servo that allows it a free range of movement, to increase maneuverability. When not in use, the wings fold down against the engine casing, and the whole engine assembly folds down along the back. The lighter armor of the Peregrine can not sustain much damage, but it is a fair trade considering how much speed was gained. While the unit is not much lighter than the original Arkham, the Peregrine's mass is centered more around the flight engine, balancing it better and putting more of the mass directly in front of the thrust. The flight engine consists of the main engine assembly, two servo mounted wings, each with a secondary engine as well as a small ducted fan. This provides all the thrust needed by the Peregrine for flight. With the flight engine, the Peregrine is, at best, awkard to pilot on the ground. The extra weight and off balance distribution is ideal for flight, but not for ground combat. While the Peregrine is able to become airborne under it's own power, it is fired from an aircraft catapult during deployment, to reduce the time necessary for full acceleration. The Peregrine can also hover for short periods of time. As with all AEGAKS, the pilot block is ejectable, and features a parachute for easy landing as well as a more powerful distress beacon for pilot recovery. The powercell ejects as well as the head, which is a standard in the Arkham prototype line. The unusual feature here, though, is that the flight engine assembly can also eject. When Kenichi developed the Peregrine's flight system, he understood that if it were to become inoperational due to damage or mechanical failure, the extra weight would prevent the Peregrine from being able to recover itself on the ground. In addition, he knew the flight system would require much more power, so he mounted the whole engine to a larger powercell which connects to the back of the Peregrine. The wings are independantly mobile and swivel as necesary to produced the desired flight path. The secondary engines provide additional thrust, while the ducted fans route hot air off of the engines and down, cooling the engines and providing additional lift in a single function. While the engine is capable of gimble, there is a brace on the underside of the main assembly. Since is is not required for the engine to gimble much in flight, the brace folds down and locks the engine in place for basic cruise and manuevers. In addition to the flight system, the Peregrine maintains a dual jumpjet on the calves. This helps with liftoff and touchdown, as well as midair maneuvering. While each by itself is not as powerful as the ones mounted to the Arkham, the combined weight to thrust ratio is higher than the Arkham's original leg jumpjets. CREATOR'S NOTES: So, I got bored. I was looking at my collection, and for some reason, I just fixed in on the Peregrine. I wasn't wholly satisfied with the design, so I did what I usually do. It strpped it of its defining components, and redid them. I took alot of the advice given on the first version into account, so thanks guys. Changes were made to the flight system, the head, the jumpjets, the frame, the cannon, and even the shoulders. I am a lot happier with this version. What say you? I wanna know. Hope you enjoy it!
